i think it would be really pretty to have high center pieces on your tables. now that i think about it, i don't think i have ever been to a reception where there was decoration on the wall. my aunt had a tressel with vines inside her hall, and that was really pretty, too. but i am planning on having high center pieces. hope this helps!

Well, if the site has plants or trees then you can string stuff through them. There are tall plants/trees at my site and I am stringing white twinkle lights through the branches. It adds a touch of elegance... not to mention is whimsical/romantic. You can also use balloons (either weigh them down or you can let them float above with streamers or something hanging down from them). Flowers around them room... I can help ya with other ideas if you would like. E-mail me. I'd be happy to help. :^)

Excellent idea Princess .I have seen those vines that from the floor they look like plants but they arch into the ceiling and with some lights and decorations look very enchanting and elegant.. The other idea is balloons .. Some balloon companies specialize in fun balloon structures that are tall and pretty.. They will even cover the floor with balloons.. Real nice idea..

Sticky-tack is available from an office-supply place, is not an adhesive, and does not leave permanent marks on most surfaces. Ask the reception place if they will allow you to use that. The balloons are an especially good idea to give height with very tall ceilings. If your site does not provide greenery, a local nursery could probably rent you some small potted trees and foliage for very reasonable prices. Be careful not to go overboard with freestanding decorations and make the room look cluttered. There are many simple, elegant ways to dress up guest tables and food tables. Your cake is an often overlooked source of visual excitement, being elegant by itself. Good luck!
Sarah P.S. I held my reception in a community center's common room, and I did not plan to have anything on the walls either. But when we showed up the morning of to decorate and set up the five-tier wedding cake that I'd spent the entire day before making, there were tons of holes punched in almost all the walls!! (They definitely hadn't been there when we reserved the site!!) My mother cut out little construction-paper hearts in our colors and strategically placed them over the holes as if they had been part of our decorating from the start! Be sure to check over your site with enough time to fix those infuriating last-minute snafus! |

a good idea is to buy some lattice from your local hardware store. Put a frame on the back of it to help keepsturdy and use hinges to hold 2 peices together. Painted white with tulle in the color of your wedding wrapped on it, and ivy or flower (bought from a dollar store) make it look pretty and elegant. You could also ad lights through it

My mom is bringing some fresh ivy to decorate for our reception. Silk flowers to match your bouquet, etc are pretty. Also you can go wrong with candles scattered around on the tables....

We also had the same kind of problem with not being able to put things on the walls in our reception area. We made a lattice background for the backdrop of the cake table. We strung ivy and lights around it and it made for the perfect spot to have wedding pictures taken throughout the night. We also had archways made for the entryway to add a touch of elegance to the room. Good luck and if you need anymore ideas on how to decorate an undecoratable hall let me know, we already did that. |

A simple garden arbor or arch decorated with ivy and white lights would be a perfect entry-way or back-drop for pictures. We just made a lattice trellis thing for behind the cake table and are planning to use it decorated with white tulle and lights.
Tall silk trees with white lights would add to the heightening effect, also. I attended one wedding where the ceiling was really ugly and they weren't allowed to put anything up, so they decorated with hundreds of helium balloons with wedding color ribbons, floated up to the ceiling with the ribbons hanging down. It was lovely! |
