We are having a Halloween wedding with more of a "Sleepy Hollow" theme than a traditional Halloween. (We are using red and black instead of ornage and black. I *hate* orange)
Any ideas for decorating and favor ideas that won't make it look like a small child's halloween party?? |

Hey!
What a fun theme!!! Candles would be lots of fun. Also, look for harvest decorations at craft stores, etc. Sometimes you can find fun stuff there that is less childish. Have fun! Smiles, Amanda |

I guess it depends if you're willing to go spooky or not. I saw a halloween wedding where the bride put black spiders in the tulle of her dress! Black or blood red candles could be cool. You can make pumpkins into pretty classy decorations if you're careful. Paint miniature pumpkins black and fill with crimson roses as centerpieces. The pumpkins would work with your sleepy hollow theme too. Around halloween you can get those candles that 'bleed' - they're black and drip red wax. Look at marthastewart.com for her cool pumpkin carvings, as well as other tips, some are really nice.

Hello. Congrats!
Maybe you can use a lot of satin and velvet. Black candles with dark red rose petals... |

Gosh... it really depends on how you are really going to decorate. Do you plan to really decorate like you are standing in the middle of Sleepy Hollow itself or are you just going to through a couple of decorations up that symbolizes sleepy hollow?
If you plan on decorating like you are standing right in the middle of Sleep Hollow then remember most of the movie/story takes place outside. They used soundstages to do many of the outside shots in the making of Sleepy Hollow so if you are having an inside reception it is possible to make it look like you are standing in the middle of Sleepy Hollow. A lot of the night shots and some of the day shots you see a lot of fog; you could get a couple fog machines (depending on size of room) to get that effect. Most of the trees if not all the trees do not have leaves so you could build old twisted trees to put around the room. It may take a while but you could take a picture you like most out of the movie and blow up sections of it and make one huge picture for behind you and you bridal party. I could go on for days about this subject; I'll keep researching the movie and try to come up with some party favor ideas for you. Just ask if you need some more help my mom and I use to go all out for halloween; I MEAN ALL OUT. We had people running away from our house and people that were even to scared to walk up to the door. My step dad would stand in the driveway so he could give the children candy that were to scared to come to the door. I attached a site to this so you can look at still pictures of the movie; just click on the little picture and it will bring up all of Johnny Depps movies scroll down to Sleepy Hollow 1999. This is agreat theme I hope you have fun with it. http://s7.ixquick.com/do/show_pictur...d=LELLLMTRNKMT

Here another site for trees. We were planning to do that for our Halloween bash. Instead of a rose arch, we were deciding on 2 trees with cobwebs. http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?...04&PID=1452601
Fiance wanted spooky iron wrought candle lanterns to light the bride's walkway with 1 fog machine to make it look spooky but neat. I went to JoAnn's today, and there were tons of lacey black and burgundy fabric. You can do miracles with those. As for party favors, mini black umbrellas (it usually rains for Halloween), satin bags with goodies, black tulle wrapped black Mikasa champagne glasses filled with goodies... or if you were sort of thinking in the time era of Sleepy Hollow, maybe masquerade masks with rhinestones and glitter with Sees black/white Halloween candycanes. Those are good. Or black enamel photoframe with pics of you and your hubby...a black bud vase with red flower... if you and your hubby love to read books, there are websites that make minibooks, like those at the bookstore. Maybe you can pick up one with Halloween theme in it and wrap it up with tulle and ribbon. But mostly favors are something that reflect the both of you. It should be something that both of you want to share with your guests. =) Good luck planning! |

My fiance and I attended the wedding of one of our teachers and it was on halloween and our gift to her was 2 pumpkins that were carved with wedding designs on the front of them for the ends of her head table, that had tealights in them...she absolutely loved them! I used 2 doves with a heart between them on one and then just a giant heart on the other one...we weren't allowed to go the reception so I don't know what the decorations looked like there..sorry...this was our senior year in high school...

Go to your nearest Hot Topic (www.hottopic.com to find a location near you or just order it online!)
I'm not biased or anything, but I've helped tons of ladies find their perfect favors and little add ons at my store. If there isn't enough of an item you want, they'll order some for you from another store and it won't be any extra cost to you!! Ages 8-20, m&f: wristcuffs are huge. everyone wears them. everyone loves them. they're about 2.99-4.99 each. ( example: http://www.hottopic.com/store/produc...=0&ITEM=214542 ) Ages 12-15 F: armwarmers. super cute and they're just weird enough for that "average" girl to like 'em. These are kind of expensive, but i'm sure you won't have a lot of girls in this age group anyway! (example: http://www.hottopic.com/store/produc...=0&ITEM=270034 Any age, F: body mists! perfume! roll on perfume! complete with fairies and other strang things. I personally love Siren, it's like a Very y knock off http://www.hottopic.com/store/produc...=0&ITEM=293462 Ages 4-16, F: clips! oo such fun! skulls, spiders, fairies, dice... ![]() http://www.hottopic.com/store/produc...=0&ITEM=211008 14+ m&f: Sunglasses! our sunglasses are super cool. it'll be a neat add on for someone who wouldn't mind rockin some unique shades. http://www.hottopic.com/store/nodepa...MCOUNT=26&SB=1 Well that's all I can think of really.. clearence is also great. Tons of quality stuff for supperrr cheap. Sorry if this sounded like spam, I've been workin at Hot Topic for over 2 years now and know this company like the back of my hand. I've outfited dance teams, made up favors for weddings, helped models etc etc. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

I went to a halloween wedding last year and it was beautiful. Her colors were pink white and black.... they used loads of white pumpkins to decorate (she grew them all herself). The bridal party all wore masks as they entered the reception... it was great
good luck! |
