I'm planning my wedding for march 2006. I only want to spend $10-$15 for the centerpieces per table because the reception location does not need much decoration. The reception is formal and elegant. The reception location: ceiling with chandelier, hand painted walls, crown molding etc. you get the picture. My color is burgundy. Any ideas?????

How about buying potted plants, and either cover the pots with paper, ribbons, or fabric, or find a cheap container (from thrift stores or discount) that either looks good or can be ***oflauged with some gold/silver spray paint, or ribbons. Or how about candelabras (again from thrift can be made nice with some paint)?
What is your color scheme/theme? How many people? What time of day? |

What about hurricane lamps with a pillar candle? You could scatter rose petals around the hurricane lamp, too.

Go to your nearest craft store or walmart and price some wide but low standing clear glass bowls...if you look well enough you will find a good rate. depending on your color scheme pick up some clear and colored smooth glass rocks (the kind people put in vases or fish tanks) or if you prefer use faux pearls. Find simple rounded floating candles in your colors, All you will need is three to four per a bowl. Line the bottom of the bowls with just a thin layer of the glass rocks or faux pearls, fill the bowl half-way to three quarters of the way with water, place the candles is the water and have the waitresses light them a couple minutes prior to arrival. You can also add tiny fresh flowers floating in the water or one large blossom down at the bottom of each bowl. Remember what ever you do, don't over crowd the bowl with candles you will lose the beauty of it.
If you dont like the one big bowl idea you can always use clear glass cylinder shaped vases in three different heights with the floating candles floating at different water levels. you can rest them on either a mirror or some metallic paper (like the gift wrap kind or some thing in that area) cut in a circle, square, or octagon shape. in between each candle vase you can place one big flower. If you're iffy about the candles burning in the middle of the tables you can buy a big flowering plant or a leafy green plant for each table @ $5-$10 a piece. Then go to walmart and buy a simple white flower pot for each of them around $2-$7 a piece then get some wide ribbon to wrap around the upper part of the flower pot make a bow and allow longer pieces of ribbon to flow around the base on the table. you can use a small dab of glue the reinforce the bow at the top. It's very simple but it adds a beautiful touch. Plus one lucky guest has a nice plant for thier home. that's all I have for now, congradulations and good luck on your big day. Jennie |

*you could lay down a colored fabric tulle and place a cake candle on top accent with a pretty wire bow and sprinkle champagne bubbles all around the fabric.
*glass bowl / jar filled with those plastic (but looks real) grape clusters (they do match the burgundy if you choose the wine looking type) with a sheer burgundy bow. >I have even saw the grapes in glass clusters for $6 pc. *Sugar candles arranged in tiers are adorable with fabric underneath and miniature ivy vines all over em'

I think mirrors under candles are elegant. I got my mirrors at Menards (hardware store) on sale for $6 for a box of 6. They have the same ones at Walmart for aprox. $10. They are technically sticky mirrors like you would put on walls in your bathroom, 12x12 and have a removable paper on the back. (much cheaper than buying actual decorating mirrors). I am then using glasses (I found some at Younkers that are beautiful...long clear stem and then a bowl type glass in a color....blue, burgandy, green and maybe yellow were the choices) I think these were $10 for 4. We ended up going with regular drinking glasses in an octagonal shape in the cobalt color we are using @ $10 for 16 to save some money. We are then putting water in them and a floating candle ($.50 a piece at hobby lobby - wedding section), and sprinkling colored metallic confetti around it. I really wanted margarita glasses but had to settle because we are trying to make them as cheap as possible. You could also get clear glasses of some kind....put colored water in it with a floating candle...this would be cheaper and you could mess with the color to get the color u want.
Let us know what you come up with. Chandra June 11, 2005 |
