Default Very Unusual Wedding Idea..Opinions Please!!

Hi I'm new to this site and just wanted to get some opinions on an idea for my wedding.

Here's some background, I have been engaged to my high school sweetheart for a little over a year. We were together for 12 years before he proposed... that is not a typo...TWELVE years! He is everything to me, and even though I tend to be a cynical, down-to-earth person, he has made me believe in "soul mates" and "meant to be". I feel so lucky that we found eachother so early in life!

So when he proposed to me I was completelty shocked, and happy, I never really realized how much I want to be his wife before he popped the question. Our friends and family were shocked as well, the just assumed we would continue to live in un-wedded bliss forever, till death do us part. (which would have been fine with me).

When we first got engaged, we talked about the wedding, who, what, where and when, etc. And we realized that neither one of us really wanted a wedding, we just want to be married.

So this is my idea: We (just the two of us) would go to a place that is special to us(the ocean,or maybe the place he proposed), have a romantic picnic with wine or champagne, and exchange our vows and wedding bands. After we would meet our witnesses and do the legal part.

What do you all think? I know it's a little wacky but............

I think getting married.. just the two of you.. at a special location would be a great idea. You can have your best friend and his best friend as witnesses.. maybe get married in the location, sign the papers, etc.. and then you, your hubby, and your two friends can celebrate by having a picnic or even going out to a really nice restaurant?

Personally, I think making the promise between the two of you is far more important than any legality or witnesses, so if you want to do it completely alone in a way that is very meaningful to the two of you, it is not wacky at all. It's very romantic. I'd say get the paperwork taken care of at the courthouse at some later date.

I think it is a good idea. Any way you guys want to get married is your choices. Do not listen to everyone else tell you want you need to do. Do it for yourselves and no one else!
