[Hawaiian Bride]

I'm trying to find a song to dance to my daddy with. I don't really like the country songs, or the mushy songs. That's just not us. I really listen to the lyrics, and when I heard "Butterfly Kisses" when I was a child, I said: "that's the song"... but then I really listened to it and my father and I never really did what the lyrics were saying. So my dad and I both like Classic Rock and Rock and so on.. So i was wondering (which I do a lot of) does anyone know of a good song to use as a first dance??

Daddy daughter songs can be approached from different angles. It can be a dedication to your father (i.e. Wind Beneath My Wings), or a dedication to the bride from the father (You Are So Beautiful, Butterfly Kisses). But, 20 years of DJing weddings, the most memorable one I ever played was a bride who decided to abandon the traditionals, and go for a different angle. She announced that when she was little, her dad used to dance in the basement with her to one song all the time. She felt it appropriate, that on her wedding day, she should dance with him to that same tune. And then, I played "Do You Wanna Dance" by the Beach Boys. Her guests loved it! And, I'll bet are still talking about it.

As for wedalert.com, I ALWAYS send my clients to that site. That's, by far, the best wedding song site even I have found.

I really like that approach, however when i was little my dad and i always danced to the song "i wanna be a cowboy" by boys dont cry. its not really appropriate for a daddy daughter dance(if you know the song or the lyrics you know why) but the only reason we danced to it was because of the chorus. "i wanna be a cowboy, and you can be my cowgirl." but, i used to stand on his feet and wed dance to it-i loved it!!!!

My father and I are going to dance to the song "To Sir, with Love" (from a movie of the same name) . It's a wonderful song, and suits my father really well because he's a retired teacher, but i think the lyrics are great because they tell of someone who's helped raise a child from a girl into a woman.
I can't remember off the top of my head, who it's by, but Jan Arden does a wonderfil version.
