Question Unique theme for Midwest wedding

Hi! I finally got my fiance to confirm a month for our wedding. We haven't picked the exact date but now I know what the weather might be! He wants to do something completely unique for our reception. Nothing wrong with that idea for me, but we live in landlocked Iowa on an acreage and he is talking about a beach party theme with trucking in sand. Any ideas on how I can help him pull this off? I've read some great ideas for decorating but I'm concerned about having some of my older relatives trying to walk through all the sand and setting up the table and chairs. Help!

Default beach in the mid west

A beach theme reception in the mid west sounds like fun, and after all a reception should be a fun party to celebrate the marriage that just took place.

In addition, there are many great accessories for beach themed weddings - guest books, unity candles, invitations, etc.

As for the sand, it seems like it would take an awful lot of sand to cover the entire reception area and that it might make things easier to create a beach to one side of the reception area. The beach could simply be a decorative focal point or if you'e not expecting your older relatives to dance it could be the dance floor.
