Unhappy How to get the flowers I want?

Once again I could use a little advice. Our wedding is just under a year away and I need to know how to convince my groom's mother that I really don't want.. (to pay for)... live flowers. I really want silk. So far I have had to sit through his sister's wedding where not only were the flower arrangments too expensive, but the boquets and bouts were all wilted on Sunday morning. We didn't even get the chance to try and dry anything. I know why they were all wilted, the flowers sat out all day on Friday while they made the arrangments and they weren't kept in a cooler and taken out as needed. Not to mention I was alergic to something in the boquets. On top of that, my future mother in law didn't even like out bouquets which were awesome, barring the fern that got on evertying.

I have three bridesmaids who have asked if we are having silk because they want to keep them. I want to keep mine. I don't mind paying $40 for a silk arrangment if I get to keep it for 50 years.

I'm just getting frustrated with the groom's mother because I have tried to tell her this many times and everytime it comes up, she says she'll pay. Well, I think she'll still be paying for daughter's wedding then. My mother doesn't want to pay for wilted flower's either and I'm sure that in the end she will be the one who pays.

I have already picked out beautiful flowers from Michael's and talked a little with the flower arranger. How do I tactfully tell the mother in law no? Then how do I tell the florist that while I loved her work, I don't think that she did it right. HELP!!!!

It's YOUR day. You should have the flowers that you want, no matter who pays for them.

If your future mother-in-law brings up the subject again, simply tell her that you and your mother have taken care of everything. If she presses for details, tell her you don't want to share details so that the wedding can be a surprise.

As for the florist, I don't think you really owe her an explanation, unless she's given you a lot of free help or consultation. Either way, just let her know that you decided to use another vendor that a friend referred.

Hi there, this is Andrea at www.yesteryearbridals.com Although we do not do flowers, I too used all silk flowers in my own wedding 3 years ago, and they were SENSATIONAL! If you visit our website at www.yesteryearbridals.com, there is a link down at the bottom for flowers that will you give you photos and info on how to contact these people. I spent about $250 for EVERYTHING....my bouquet, toss, bridesmaids, mother's and father's corsages, everything. You can change colors, add different flowers, anything you want for no extra charge, and you DO get to keep them forever! I still use the toss bouquet in many of my bridal gown photos! ---Andrea Roberts, Yesteryear Bridals

I totally agree with mermaid. This is OUR day!! I am having fresh flowers at my wedding, but only because my matron of honor and her husband own a flower shop!! You're absolutely right, you'll be able to keep the silk flower forever and it makes much more sense money wise. Tell your mom-in-law-to- be, that you appreciate her advice and you love her, but that you (and your mom) know exactly what you want for YOUR wedding. If she continues to discuss it then nicely put your foot down and say that the decision has been made. As far as the florist I agree with the other girl, you don't really owe her an explanation unless she has spent alot of time w/you. I would send her a thank you card, just because I'm a card person and everybody likes getting cards!! Thank her and tell her you will gladly refer others to her. Good Luck!!patriciabish@yahoo.com
