Bussling up dress

I've never been happy with how dresses look when bussled (sp?) up.. Are there any websites that can show different ways to bussle up a dress? My alterations lady is willing to do it how I'd like. I'm even wondering if I can use the wrap that matches the dress to cover the part of the bussle I don't like. I'd almost rather walk around during the whole reception with the dress down. Any suggestions?

Have you looked at your dress at a bridal shop? Go to different ones and ask them to show you what a bussel would look like. Trust me they will all do it a little differently. See if there is one that you like and write down what they did or draw a picture. I have a dress with color going down the train in a V. I looked at it in 2 different shops and the place I didn't buy it showed me how to bussle it to look like it's ribbon streaming off the back. So I asked the place I bought it if they would bussel it that way and they said no problem. Otherwise, the only bad advice I can give is to try it on and have someone you trust look as your seamstress tries different things. That's how they decided on the bussel for my future sister in law's dress. I hope this helps a little. My last suggestion would be to search on the internet and find pictures of diffent things. I've found a lot of interesting things on the internet.

Just a little information. I have discovered that there are two real types of bustling. One is when you have a series of buttons that help to hold up the skirt in the bustling process. If you haven't liked friends dresses that have been bustled by buttons they probably didn't do it right! My friends dress had three buttons. First the center was supposed to be brought up and then the left side was supposed to go to the right and the right to the left. When her mom did it she didn't cross the sides and it looked funny. So my suggestion with this type is - once you figure out how you are going to have it done bring your maid of honor or someone from the party with you have them pay attention while your seamstress bustles it so they know how it should be done.
There is also a type of bustling called french bustling. This uses ribbons attached the the skirt (underneath). You pull the ribbons up and it makes your train pull up under the skirt. I have never acctually seen this type of bustling. But it is something to look into when you are checking out the dress shops. Good Luck!
