I'm not sure how the dollar dance works, but our DJ has asked if we want to do it. He was saying its something about paying to dance with either the bride or the groom, but I don't know how well that will go since my fh's family is kinda tight with money. Can someone explain this and is anyone doing this?

I'm going to do it, almost everyone in my familiy has. It's basically where you can pay a dollar to dance with either the bride of the groom. The best man & maid of honor usually take the money and it is used as a sort of "play fund" while you are on your honeymoon. (You could use it for whatever you want though.) It's alot of fun and lets the family feel like they are part of the party.

thanks for explaining. maybe we will do this, so then we can get some extra money for the honeymoon.

i am doing the dollar dance.. because it gives the guest a chance to congratulate you, wish you the best and share a moment of your special day with both the bride and groom.. i think its a great idea....
(Downside)
it takes a big chuck of time if you have alot of people participating!

We're doing the dollar dance too. Every wedding I've gone to has had it. lol. It's actually a nice time to talk with your guests. :)

It's a lot of fun. Every wedding I have ever been to has had the dollar dance. It's a great time to be able to congratulate the new bride and groom!

I would love to do the dollar dance. We are having such a huge wedding that it would probably take all night for us to dance with everybody. We are haveing a box sitting on a table that says "Honeymoon Fund" I know that it sounds kind of tacky but it takes less time to do it. I have seen the dollar dance done on a TV show and the bride went bananas when one of her friends dances with the groom. It was one of those things that you see on TV only!

You can do it for as long as you want to. Just talk to your DJ about the timing. I've seen it last a couple songs..or even just 1 song. It's nice to have a "cutoff" time that way you don't feel obligated to have to dance with everyone. :)

hey that's a really good idea. maybe i'll pick three or four songs and then tell the dj to stop the dollar dance. since his family is so big i wouldn't want it to last like an hour or something.

I know what you mean. If I had to dance with every guest my feet would be bleeding. haha.

FH doesn't want to do the dollar dance because he says it looks like a prostitute or something. I think he's over dramatizing but anyway doesn't make me any difference.
