I am starting to get a little worried about wedding cakes. We're only 5.5 months away from the wedding and we haven't even scoped out a bakery yet. I've been kind of looking at websites for cakes but haven't found anything I like. I found this:

but instead of the purple flowers I want gerber daisies draped down the side (blue, red, yellow, white?) and maybe a little bit of ivy.... Has anyone ever seen a cake that is simple and elegant but where you can add your own flare with flowers and navy blue without a ribbony look?

I love that cake!! And purple & platinum are my wedding colors, so it would go. Unfortunately I already have flowers for my cake, but I LOVE that style!!! I haven't put a whole lot of thought into my cake either, and I"m gettinig married 8-26-06. We pretty much agree on a simple cake, I'll give her my flowers & let the baker have at. I'll give her the general on what we want though. Relax! I think gerber daisies would look LOVELY! Check out theknot.com, weddingchannel.com, thecakeloft.net, etc. There are a lot of great deisgns & examples of cakes. We're basing ours off a design on thecakeloft.net. Our cake is included in our reception hall price, and they use thecakeloft.net.

I think any bakery can alter the colors or add stuff to a cake. I don't have mine either yet and I am getting married in July; but, I am going to a cake tasting on Saturday.

Thanks for website. I like these designs as well (may not cost as much $$)

But have darker blue flowers on this one:

Or different coloured daisies and ivy on this one...

I am conflicted, lol.

I think as long as you know the colors you want to incorporate, and the shape you want the cake to be, the rest is just details. I know I want an all white cake, with maybe some thin lavender trimming. We want the cake to be shaped like a hectogon. And we already have our floral cake topper & clusters for the tiers. I'll find the one I saw that I like & I'll post it in a sec!

I would start looking for a bakery or a cake lady. They should have a ton of books and pictures of cakes that they have done for you to look through. Get it done now before they all book up!

This is the general design I want, but I want some lavender icing in the trim to match my cake topper.

Yeah, I still think I like the top one better... What I would like to do is maybe change it so the flowers hugged the top piece and then I could put the topper (two doves - I think) on top where the flowers are actually sitting right now.

Thats so pretty. I was thiking with the beading trim on the first cake they could use navy blue instead of what looks like pale lavender.

That would be very pretty! That's how I want to add color to my cake as well... in the trim. Be it beading, or even just a straight line to divide the tiers. I just want it to match the flowers in my topper.

You also don't need to find an exact picture of what you want. You should be able to take a picture to the cake lady and let her know how you want yours from the picture.

Yeah, I'm thinking if they're versatile enough to make a wedding cake in the first place they'd better be able to create something from an idea!!! Thanks!

For sure! Wow, I already feel better about it! Thanks, lol! Now its just a matter of finding a baker. The one in town (very small town) charges an arm and a leg for EVERYTHING - charged $60 for 2 dozen sweet squares - like nanaimo bars, etc. Crazy expensive. So we'll likely have to go to the 'city' lol to find one. Hmmmm we'll see. THANKS

Talk to your reception site (ok, not THE site, but whomever manages it!) and see if they have someone to refer you to. Most do!
