Hey there! Does anyone know if it is usually more or less expensive to do a cupcake wedding cake instead of a traditional wedding cake? I am considering it because I think it is a neat idea and it eliminates cake cutting. Thanks!!

I think it is cheaper, depending on who you go to. It is easier and less to decorate. My sister wants to do a cupcake wedding cake, but I don't think she has gotten any quote yet, so I'm not positive!

It probably depends on how much you plan to decorate the cupcakes if at all. I'm really not sure...but it may end up being more expensive if you want to make them look a little more fancy. I would talk with a local baker and see what they have to say!

I read somewhere that cupcake wedding cakes are very simple to do and very inexpensive. I think we are going to have one. We plan on making ours ourself and maybe having a family member who can decorate them come help.

Making them yourself will DEFINITELY save a ton of $..good luck!
I totally thought about doing this... I was planning to make them myself though
But i could not decide what i wanted to do on the cupcakes so i just went with a the cake!
Honestly though.... If you have take into consideration the liners the stand and all the extra decorations..(bc it will be more than a cake) If you have someone make them honestly it is going to be the same price maybe even higher

I love the ones that look like little wedding cakes.

But that WOULD be expensive.

I really wanted to do this. But my FH thought it would be too different for our more traditional families and he didn't want us to get laughed at.
I love the cake we picked out though.
Anyway, let us know if you decide to go with it! I think it is a great idea.
I have seen where you can get an oval piece of fondant (I think) with your monogram or new initial in it to stick in the tops of the cupcakes.
I think www.wendykromer.com has those. Neat!

I looked at cupcakes, but they worked out more expensive than large cakes. I guess it is as Mrs J says, the expense of the paper cases, decorating each indiviual cakeetc etc

I wanted to do this also but since my aunt is making our cake I had to run it buy her and she agreed that it would be more expensive. The stands are pretty pricey themselves. And I wanted them each made w/ a flower on top then a butterfly pix put in the top and she said that would be more work then decorating an entire cake. But I still get to use the cute butterfly pix when they cut it before it comes back out the kitchen they are going to put a pix into each slice so everyone will get their own pretty butterfly.
3rd times a charm!

I've read that the cupcakes are usually cheaper than the regular wedding cake, but I think it just depends on your number of guests, and how they would be decorated!! I thought about doing the cupcakes, but the place that we are getting married through offers a cake, so we are just going with that!! If you really wanted the cupcakes, could you do a smaller wedding cake, and some cupcakes?? I don't know if that would end up costing you more, to have both, but I think it would be cool to offer cupcakes, especially if there are kids attending your wedding!!

I found a seven teir cupcake pedistal for under $10.00 from ebay. Make the cup cake is easy especailly if you have a "shower" and give a cake mix to each guest and ask them to make cupcakes. Wal-Mart for one has awesome candy decorations that would be simply after iced and you can have both chocolate as well as white and they can be made up to four weeks ahead of time and frozen. If iced frozen you wil have no crumbs and a perfect decorated cake in no time. This is what I am going to do for my "cake."
