View Full Version : I need help deciding on a cake
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b39/AmandaTags/hbh_54110.jpg
I am debating on this topper... Monogram letters (But i am cheap i would make my own) .. or just flowers.
THe cake will be white NO FONDANT I hate it it is chewy and gross! And will have red roses on it no matter what i pick. And it will be a small 3 tier cake.
Cake 1

I would love if somehow we could do that but with silver hearts! I know they make the edible luster duster but i am not sure what you would make the hearts from? Fondant? And I wouldnt think a cake topper would look good with this one!
Cake 2
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b39/AmandaTags/fb555970.jpg
I like this but would want it round and odviously not that topper.
Cake 3
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b39/AmandaTags/w09_wedding_cake_purple_roses_blue_.jpg
Simple only red roses
Also Has anyone used ribbon on a cake before or is using ribbon... i have never thought of that but when looking for cakes it is very common now. And a cheaper alternative than to have someone craft the bow and ribbon out of sugar.
Any suggestions opinions or what not would be appreciated .... I like all 3 hubby has no opinion.

I like the first one best.
I am planning to buy my cake from a department store...I almost fell down when I saw the prices from bakers. (I am in the Uk...so that might be a little different) they have a selection of plain white, iced heavy fruit cake (very traditional here) and I could have 3 tiers for less than £100 (i think thats about $170) which is about 1/3rd of the price of bakers. anyway..I am planning to tie red ribbon around each tier and the make a topper myself...Possibly a little bride and groom.. wow..sorry about that. I can certainly go on a bit!

I said three but I also like #2.
Louise dont worry LOL i know what you mean i look back at some of my posts on here and i think did i really need to say that much? LOL
I am not getting my cake from a bakery either... there is a local lady that is a stay at home homeschooling mom that does cake decorating on the side and she makes beautiful cakes and matches any grocery stores prices. I have talked to her a couple of times and I will provide the flowers, the topper and any other accessories i choice i want on the cake. And she is going to do it for me for $70 that price includes delivery and setup.
The third is what i originally had in mind but then i saw those other 2 i was like wow i love those too
My worry is with the third one it wont look as good having only one size and one color flower
Thank you everyone for all those who voted!
I love them all LOL.

I really like the 3rd one - I found another similar picture you might like and it has a couple of different size roses to give you an idea of how it would look with just the one color.
Also, if you're thinking of using fresh flowers instead of sugar you can also use loose petals to decorate the cake.

The online place that I got my flowers at has flower clusters and toppers to match that you could buy. They are very reasonably priced. Okay, I feel like I'm spamming their name everywhere but they have somewhat of what you are looking for. www.perfectpetalsnc.com
ty for the info alley I actually have already purchased all of my flowers because I got a super deal on them. I love the clusters but i doubt the roses will match...SO hopefully between me and the cake decorator we can come up with something great :)

I voted for #3 because it looks more like a wedding cake and I'm sure it'll be very pretty with the red flowers. The others are pretty too but they look like they should be used for a valentines day wedding. JMO.

I voted for number 1, cause I think the simplicity of it is really nice. You could add just a few flowers round it, over it, whatever, and you don't need the hearts on there.

I've used ribbons on cakes that I've made, and the only problem is that some ribbons (especially the satiny ones), get darker from the oils in the frosting. It's usually not an issue, unless the ribbons start out as a dark color (a brown ribbon once turned black).

I like the first one. BTW I also like the momogram cake toppers, but I'm gonna make mine myself. I'm NOT paying $200 for some letters.
