I need advice! My parents don't like my wedding date "that's just inconvenient-what did you do, pick the most expensive day of the year?" they say..they assume I should just have my reception in the same place my brother got married-but I want my wedding to have its own memory, not a repeat of 'this is where so and so had his reception.' And if I hear one more time of how much its all costing because the groom's side of the family's guest list is so long I'm gonna be committed! (Because it's MY side that's larger..not his!) Should I just elope and forget my dreams of walking down the aisle? Both my fiance and I are upset with my family... please advise.. thanks;

your wedding day is very much unique and people are different.do things the way you want them to be because it is your day to remember.your parents are very much important but takt to them about what you want because you are still an individual.you also need to pray toGod that your family will understand.your own decision is the best of all as each family member will their own view and you will end up confused.

If your family is paying for the wedding and it is THEIR fault the guest list is so long, suck up the cahones and say "You want it, YOU pay for it."
My brother and SIL got married 15 years ago and my mother "offered" to pay for the reception at the country club but my SIL had to have it at the Knights of Columbus Hall (no one in either of our families are Catholic). The hall was way too big, they let regular members in all night to drink at the bar and the reception area was nearly empty. The country club (small golf club near town) would have been far more intimate and elegant at a fraction of the cost.
My husband and I paid for our own wedding but my Mom wanted to "help". When she started going to bridal fairs and pricing ice sculptures, I said "You want to flush $250 down the toidey FINE with me but it better be in the shape of the Cornhusker Football 'N'" (state college football team). Well needless to say we didn't have an ICE sculpture (plus the hall would have charged a $25 "disposal" fee on it which is when my dad said to my husband "We'll just drag that sculpture out in the parking lot ourselves and back the 4-wheel drive over it a couple times...THERE'S your disposal!!!)
