No matter what I do, I can't find a gown that I want.... I'm renewing my vows and I've already down the big, gorgeous, white, mostrosity wedding gown (my gown beautiful but had more train than I wanted)

I had a beautiful idea in mind but none of the designers carry anything close.... usually they have the sleeves but not the neckline, or the sleeves and neckline, but a big skirt and train.

I think I'm going to design my gown and make it myself... I did costuming and sewing for years so I know I can do it... just curious if anyone else is considering it.

I'm doing a dress made of ivory Venise lace (crocheted lace) It will have a wide scoop neckline and sits just at the shoulders. Sheer, venise lace poet sleeves (fitted to the elbow, then trumpet out). The shape is a narrow a-line satin skirt with venise lace overlay and a sheer lace sweep train.

Does that make sense?

I have to combine three patterns to get look that I want but I think it'll be worth it!

It sounds beautiful! Mayflowers made her own. I think if you can do it and it won't stress you out go for it! I am having my BM dresses made. I would do it myself if I had a working sewing machine! But I figured less stress to let someone else do it! LOL!

I'm not making mine, but I'm considering having it made, if I can't find something I like soon. :( But, kudos to you for making yours! As long as it looks good, who cares where it ***e from! I think it's awesome that you have enough talent to make your own. Cause at this point, I sure would make my own if I was sure it would look halfway decent!

Someone on here is but for the life of me, the name eludes me! My memory isn't good sometimes with matching the names to who is doing what! I'll see if I can figure out who it is for you.

Hi there,

Well, I am sort of doing my own dress. I am also like you, I can not find the perfect combination for something that would be in my budget.
I seriously thought of doing my own dress after I realized that I already had a "perfect skirt"... I will be making the top myself, but I haven't started yet.

If you take a look at my journal, I have a link which is the story of a bride who did her own. If you are going that direction, this is pretty helpfull...

Take care!

I make alot of costumes and rennaissance outfits for ren faires so I might go ahead and make a "prototype" in a brocade or cheaper fabric (that venise lace is expensive) To see if i like it and then sell it to one of the fairgoers and use the money to buy the fabric for the real thing.

I don't want to make the dress until closer to the date... but when I start, I can only work on it during the day when my husband isn't home! (Yes, I'm supersticious that way :) )
