I was just wondering how early you should actually order your dress? My mom has mentioned about going to look at dresses already. I have over a year left. I just don't want it to come in at the last minute, but I dont want to have it for like 6 months either.

I've heard that you should allow about 6 months. That is generally enough time to have the dress fitted, ordered and have alterations done if needed. Of course that rule isn't set in stone. There are a lot of brides who plan a whole wedding in 3 months and have their dress done in that time. Conversly, I had a friend who had to order her dress 3 times because every time it ***e in, the fabric was stained or frayed. It ultimately took 10 months for her dress to come in with no problems.

You can go looking at any time and then when you find a dress you like, the shop will tell you what the appropriate time frame for them is. They need time to order the dress and then you need to get it altered. I bought my dress of the rack so I had it almost a year before the wedding! The shop is keeping mine until I'm ready to take it home. Plus by looking so far out, you can have time to watch for sales and deals and to shop around at different places.

It seems that most places can have it in 6 months or less. One shop told me 9 months. I left.

I guess it all really depends on that dress that you want. My dress is taking about 4 months to come it but I know most places tell you to order them 6 months in advance just in case.

I ordered my dress a year before my wedding and I got it in within a month. I guess it depends on where you go. It doesn't hurt to start looking around though so you have an idea of what you like and where you want to go.

i have a long way off but i saw a dress that i have to try on. I would rather have the dress ahead of time rather than worring about if it is going to be here on time.

I just ordered my dress from David's Bridal on Saturday, and they told me to allow 3 months for in to come in. Then after that I will have 2 fittings. I should have plenty of time since our wedding is in September. I wasn't in a huge hurry to get mine, but if you find a dress you love why not just go ahead and get it! :)
