Do any of you ladies know what the deal is with displaying cakes? I mean if I want tiers that are on platforms where do I go about purchasing the tiers? For instance I don't want the cake layers stacked on top of each other, but I do want the seperate layers seperated on platforms. I hope I am not sounding stupid here. I guess I want to be able to explain to the cake lady what I want to do.

You mean like this?
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.bridaltips.com/tracy/Roll1f5.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.bridaltips.com/wedding-cakes.htm&h=475&w=524&sz=43&tbnid=w0taQsd0wksJ:&tbnh=116&tbnw=129&hl=en&start=19&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dwedding%2Bcakes%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3De n%26lr%3D%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den%26sa%3DN (click on the small picture right on top of the page)
If so, just show her the picture, she may have stuff that she can work with or know where to find it.

Are you making your own cake? I've seen those cake thingies at both Hobby Lobby and Micheals. Otherwise, if you're having you cake made at a bakery or even a grocery store... they usually have them for you to rent.

They are called pillars, dow rods support the cake plates the pillars sit on,
like this:

Top Cake (3 tiers)
Cake plate for top of pillars
Pillars
Cake plate for bottom of pillars
Cake with wooden dow rods inserted into them
Cake Plate for top of pillars
pillars
cake plate for bottom of pillars
Cake / with wooden dow rods inserted into them
Cake Plate
Table (bottom)

Or you can get "Invisible pillars" that stick through the cake and not into a cake plate on the bottom, can be a little shakey though.

Hope this helped and didn't confuse you, Tina

No you ladies didn't confuse me at all. I just kept playing with words until I found what I was looking for. They usually just call them cake stands I think. But they are pricy...well the ones I looked at were pricy. I was sort of looking for some that I could put together myself. I am doing a design of how I would like it set up so hopefully I can find something.

You can always go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels if they are in your area with their 40% off coupons and buy them there if you like what they have. Look on ebay. Maybe you can find a good price there.

Try cakedeco.com. I have gotten things from them in the past. Look under wedding kits, and it will come with the stand and usually a couple cake boards.
