My father is deceased for some time now and I am having my mom give me away. I feel that it will look odd having just the mother-son dance, but I don't want to just take it out and take that away from my fiance and his mother? Any opinions on if that is going to look strange or not?

We're only having a mother-son dance also. My father is a live, but not really in my life. I was a little concerned too that it wouldn't seem "even"...but, a lot of weddings only have a father-daughter dance, so it should be ok. It may not be as traditional, but it's not fair to my fiance and his mother that I have a lousy father.

I had the same problem in reverse!! My husband's mother died less than a year before our wedding. One good solution if you have any brothers, have them take your Dad's place. My husband's oldest sister did the traditional mother/son dance with my husband instead of his mom, and we just combined the father/daughter mother/son dance into one, and it worked out great!!!

I was recently at a wedding where the Mother of the Bride gave the bride away. She also had a Mother-Daughter dance in place of the Father-Daughter dance. I found it very touching that she was so close to her Mom that way.
But it's up to you if you wish to dance with your Mom.
I also agree that just having the Mother-Son dance for your groom is ok.

I had a friend in this situation...so what we decided to do, was have a father in law/daugther dance and a mother in law/son dance. The bride danced with her groom's father and the groom danced with his bride's mother. It was beautiful and really tied the families together. Its an option :)
