Quick question - my mother knows a cake maker who said she could make our cake for $1.50/person. Is this a good price; and what is everyone else paying?

Heck yeah, that's a good price. My cake is $5 per slice. So you made out big time.

I agree, that's a heck of a deal! My cake is around $700 and I have 150 people..so you do the math! OUCH!

That is pretty good. The lady who is making our cake is charging 2.00 per slice regardless of the detail of the cake. She made brother's cake for his wedding. I think 2 bucks per slice is a good deal too!

I am trying to find someone cheaper than $4.00/pp, so I think you got a great deal!

My FH loved a cake we saw at our grocery store, and it was a lot cheaper, but they wouldn't deliver and set up :( And I have no one to do it, so I'll have to find someone else. But it was beautiful!!!

I usually charge 1.75-2.00 per serving, including delivery
sometimes depending on the cake. Fondent up's the price
.50 per serving. I did do an india style cake with a whole
lotta hand painted golddust but still they only paid like $3.33
per serving (500.00) any bakery would have charged them
$6-7+ per serving. This weekend I am doing a 3-D Ohio State
Stadium cake (The Horseshoe) for a boys 13th b-day I am
excited about that. GO BUCKS!!!

If you girls have any questions about cakes I would be happy
to answer them for you.

My great aunt it making ours and I don't know how much she'll charge us, if she charges us. So I cannot really help out. I do agree that sometimes having a smaller main cake with sheet cakes can cut your cost dramatically. That way they can have your cake cut and ready to serve after you do your cake cutting.

We are cheating! We are getting a small, but awesome cake for cake cutting and photos.. and in the back kitchen we have sheet cakes ready for distribution.

Hey that isn't a bad idea at all. We are paying $2.75 per slice and I have to buy the fresh flowers to decorate it.

My prices for small wedding cake and additional sheet cakes are not much lower than a large wedding cake. Because I am still decorating a wedding cake and baking just as much cake and delivering the same amount of cake,
the only difference is my husband doesnt have to help me carry it. Its all the same amount of time and cake. I think they are lower because they charge to much in the first place : )

I think that's a smart idea. They had a beautiful cake at my son's wedding, it was perfect for the pictures and cutting but since there were 350 people, they did sheet cakes also. People don't care! I'd save the money too!
