Okay, just so you know... I've only tried on 100s of gowns!!! LOL! And I think I might like some of them, but there is always something not right about them. This can't continue much longer though, I have to order one before the end of January if I hope to even have a dress to wear at all!!!

AGH! What is wrong with me? Why can't I find one I like?

Well I have looked at every bridal shop in town, plus some in neighboring towns. I have looked on designer websites (and actually liked some of those until I learned how much they cost  ) I know I like strapless dresses and an a-line skirt. I need to have a sweep train though, and so many dresses have a chapel length train. I know that I absolutely hate ballgowns... they just don't look good on me. I also like the color called "light gold" or "spun gold". It is so pretty and it really flatters my skin tone (I'm a redhead). I have liked several dresses from the Maggie line, but so many of them I have never been able to see in person. I'm actually waiting for a trunk show that is coming up at the end of this month so I might actually get to see some different styles in person. I have also liked dresses by Demetrios, Justin Alexander, and Mon Cheri. I like dresses with lace or flower details. I'm not sure how I feel about taffetta though, it "swishes" alot and it sounds like I'm wearing wind pants! LOL! As for expensive gowns that I could never, ever in my wildest dreams possibly afford... I have liked several Melissa Sweet and Monique Lhuiller gowns. Sorry, this is so long... I have tried on ALOT of dresses though.

Okay... dresses I have been kinda interested in....
I kinda like this one and it comes in champagne. I have never been able to find it anywhere to try on though. It looks like the train could be shortened without loosing anything though, because there isn't any embelishment down there.
http://www.bridesave.com/images/gowns/mga530hcm.jpg

This is another Maggie, not strapless... but I think its kinda neat. It's lace and it comes in diamond white over light gold (diamond white lace, light gold satin). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to try this one one either.
http://www.bridesave.com/images/gowns/mgj955m.jpg

This one is one that another girl on here liked. It's very pretty, and I love the gathering in the back. It comes in diamond white over light gold too. I haven't seen this one anywhere... and I don't think the train would be easily shortened because of the gathering in the back (it might look funny is what a seamstress said).
http://www.bridesave.com/images/gowns/mgj971m.jpg

Beautiful dress. I have seen this one. Unfortunately, it is one of the more expensive Maggies. Plus there is tons of embelishment on the train and it would be hard to shorten.
http://www.bridesave.com/images/gowns/mgs7131hcm.jpg

Cute little dress. It comes it light gold and it has a short train. Not too sure about the way the waist is sewn to the skirt. I haven't been able to try this dress on either.
http://www.bridesave.com/images/gowns/mga389hcm.jpg

This is a Demetrios dress I tried on. I liked it and thought it was flattering. My mom hated it. The train can easily be shortened and the color is ivory/cafe.
http://www.demetriosbride.com/us/collections/ilissa_05/highres/874A.jpg

This is a Justin Alexander dress. I loved the roses on the train and back (can't see to well in the pic). It comes in gold/cafe and the train can be shorten. I tried it on though, and unfortunately it would have to have a ton of alterations done to it. Add that to the $1000 price tag and this dress starts to get a little more that just a bit out of reach.
http://www.justinalexanderbridal.com/photos_big/8055_b1_041127235716.jpg

This dress is gorgeous. I haven't seen it in person, but it says it has a sweep train. It comes in ivory/gold. Oh, its so pretty!
http://www.justinalexanderbridal.com/photos_big/8152_b1_050602215130.jpg

I love this Monique Lhuillier dress. Short train, beautiful lace... only costs thousands of dollars! LOL!
http://www.moniquelhuillier.com/webcollection/bridal/ad***paign/2005/2005-04.jpg

And of course, Melissa Sweet has some wonderful dresses that I would just die to have. They are so pretty and they have short trains. But again, they are WAY too expensive.

Sorry, it is a long list. And these aren't the only dresses I have ever "liked". There are just so many choices and nothing is just perfect. :(

I cannot believe you still haven't found your dress. You were stressing about this months ago. I cannot remember if I posted this the first time but I really loved this dress from David's Bridal.

Yeah, I know... I've been trying on dresses (HUNDREDS OF DRESSES!!!!) since March!! I just cannot find anything I am happy with. This is just terrible? Why is this so hard. All the other girls on here don't seem to be having as much trouble as I am. What's my problem?
Anyways, thanks for posting those dresses. I tried both of them on (well, I just tried on every dress at David's! LOL!). I vaguely remember that first one, and remembered that I didn't like it. The second one is pretty, but I'm not into shadow trains very much. I'm not sure why... I just don't really find them appealing. But thank you for the suggestions. It's not like I don't appreciate your trying to help. :)

Well, if you don't hurry up soon, FH is going to drag you to the wedding in your PJs! It must be very frustrating! I hope you find one soon.

LOL! Tell me about it. Won't everyone be surprised at our wedding. Here comes the bride! ... in ther pjs! :p
I know I'm running out of time. But I just don't LOVE any of these dresses the way everyone describes loving their gown. I'm just a hopeless case I guess. I've tried on so many gowns I don't even remember what most of them are now. And dresses I actually think I might like, I can never find anywhere. If I'm this worried about picking the right dress, then how can they expect me to just blindly order something from a picture and hope I like it? I hate bridal stores!! LOL!

Is there any that you tried on that were a close 2nd? I felt that feeling when I tried my dress on the first time, loved the dress, hated the price tag. Everything eventually worked out and I got my dress at a good price.

Well... that Justin Alexander one I pictured was my favorite for awhile. Then it kind of melted away after I thought about all the altering it needed. (that's why I like Maggies... they all fit like a glove on me and they are the perfect length)

Have you looked any where for knock offs? I didn't know it in the beginning but the dress I found at a bridal salon was a Maggie knockoff. It's exactly like her dress and was alot cheaper. Watch for stores that advertise exclusive designers. You might find one of those dresses that's not a Maggie but looks just like it.

I think there are some brides out there who don't get the feeling...

Since you've tried on so many, is there a particular style that you really like? Instead of trying on everything under the sun again, maybe now is the time to concentrate on what you know looks best. Once I had tried on strapless and decided that was what looked best on me, I tried on ones with a-line skirts. I decided that I wanted the princessy ballgown, however (body types be darned!), so narrowed my search to strapless, sweetheart, ballgowns.

Would that help you? just a thought!

good luck! everything will work out! :)

Yeah, I've narrowed it down to a strapless a-line with an asymetrical waist and in a light weight fabric. And one that either has a sweep train or a plain train that can just be cut off. Oh, and it also needs to be in a champagne color and have either lace or floral details. Sheesh... that's getting really complicated. Not alot of dresses fit that description. LOL!

I don't know... I've never heard of anyone around here that does this.
All I can find is ads in the phone book for alterations. Well, I guess I can call some of these people to see how much they charge. I guess I didn't think that they could be cheaper... if anything, I thought hiring someone for that would be really expensive.

Stores sell knock offs??? I've never seen "exclusive" designers around here. All the stores seem to carry name brands... well, except David's.

Yah! I went to a bridal shop in town where I live and fell in love with this dress, it's the silver lace one I posted in my journal. I asked if they had a picture of it or knew where I could find one. They told me that I wouldn't be able to find a picture that it was a private collection (I just looked up on their website to see what exactly they called it, here's their website that lists all their designers http://www.weddingsbydesigndm.com/designers.html). I ***e on here and posted a picture of me in the dress and Carla told me that it looked very similar to a Maggie dress. She posted a picture of it and sure enough it was the same dress. The Maggie sold for like 12-1400, my dress was marked for $880 at the store. I ended up buying it off the rack for a little over $600. Call around or something to your local bridal salons and ask if they carry private collections, you could possibly find a knock off dress.

Hmm... most of the dresses I have ever seen in the stores around here have name brands. Like ones I recognize (e.g. Paloma Blanca, Casablanca, Mon Cheri, Maggie Sottero, Private Label by G, Pronovias, Watters, Landa, Justin Alexander, Essense of Australia, Eden, etc.)
Perhaps the exclusive collections are things you see in larger cities.

Yeah, it's getting about to that point. But I'm afraid the person making the dress wouldn't make it how I want it... or cost like a zillion dollars. I guess I just can't see how a dress made by a professional could be any cheaper.

I don't know, but there are some pretty skilled seamstresses out there. I wonder if you took images of the top, skirt, etc. you liked, they would be able to do that? I'm sure you could pick out your fabric too...?
