My FH and I are butting heads on wedding themes and formality. He is from NY and i am from VA. We def have 2 totally different ideas of what a wedding should be. I really want a simple garden wedding and he thinks it should be this grand event. Our budget is not condusive to his idea but i want to incorpoate some of the things he wants whether it be in a garden or vineyard etc. Any suggstions?

Well if you had the traditional and a little elaborate ceremony like it sounds like your FH wants, you could incorporate a garden theme into it. There are all kinds of ideas to use. For favors, you could give mini potted plants or seed packets. You can decorate with watering cans, flowers, bees, etc. My brother got married last week, and they had a garden setting in the reception hall... they had it along one wall, an arch was set up with a bench under it; there were stepping stones; a fountain off to the side; and plenty of plants around. It was beautiful. Made for great pictures too!
You can go to this website and get some ideas under the garden theme.

You can do a garden wedding very upscale, by adding flowers everywhere, lights, and other stuff to make it more romantic. And the best part is that it will look great, but won't cost much.

When you mentioned vineyard - that popped out at me. I've been to a few weddings that were at a vineyard. They were either held outdoors, the tasting room or in the cask rooms. My favorite would be when the reception was in the cask room. The wedding was very upscale just from the setting alone, but they had different "outdoor type" decorations around. It was quite beautiful.

I myself am getting married at my FSILs house. She lives on acres of land in the middle of nowhere. We are doing the ceremony by a few weeping willows at dusk and the reception will be held under a tent decorated to the gills with flowers, lights, candles, etc. By the time dinner and all that comes around, it will start to get dark so all the lights will add a very romantic feel to everything. I was also going to have lanterns going up the walkways at the house to add to the ambience.

If you need any help, let me know - I've done a lot of research so for. I also decided that I need a wedding coordinator/planner and am going to meet with her this weekend...so I'm excited to see what sort of ideas she has for decorating as well.
