I'm getting married July 29th, which I know is in "hurricane season." Does anyone know from what dates this season is??? We want to honeymoon right after the wedding, but we're worried about this. What are all you other "hurricane season" brides doing??

yeah hurricane season is from like the beginning of june into autumn.
my date is august 25th but we're avoiding the whole hurricane problem by going to Greece for our honeymoon. Santorini island, specifically... it's a beautiful island with black sand beaches from the volcano, lots of history and culture, great weather, decent nightlife and unique architecture. it's a fairly popular wedding and honeymoon destination.

There's typical beach stuff like laying out and getting tan and water sports but then there's other stuff that you can't always find in typical places like the caribbean (and I'm a huge fan of the caribbean!)... like visit the hot springs of the volcano, visit ancient sites related to greek mythology and history, visit wineries, etc.
No, I'm not a santorini travel agent lol... I've just always wanted to go there and I'm trying to point out that there are places in europe that can give you the typical sandy beach thing you'd get in the caribbean or southeast of america without the fear of hurricanes... plus other stuff you won't find in the hurricane areas.

Hurricane season is the first of June until the last of November.
Where were you planning on honeymooning?
I am not a "hurricane season" bride...intentionally. That was actually the first thing that was discussed when we were picking our date. Not because I was afraid of ruining the honeymoon...I was afraid of it ruining the wedding (we live in FL). The end of July/beginning of Aug is really just when the season starts to get busy. Sept and Oct are the busiest and then November is usually pretty quiet. Hope that helps.

If you don't mind, can i ask about how much that's costing you?? We looked into going to Italy last year and it was WAY WAY WAY out of budget. I figured going to Europe was just out of the question because of how much it was.

We really want to go to Sandlas St. Lucia or Jamaica. We don't want to spend all the money to go there, just to have all this hurricane crap going on. Maybe I should talk to a travel agent, they might have some good advice. The travel agent is going to want you to book the trip, so their advice might be biased (unless you have someone that you deal with regularly).
Obviously, there are no guarantees with hurricane season. So, if you want a guaranteed hurricane-free honeymoon, delay the trip. Maybe just take a few days after the wedding to go somewhere close. And then take the honeymoon later.
If your heart is absolutely set on taking the honeymoon right after the wedding, get travel insurance. And be prepared for the possiblity of the resort having to be closed either before you arrive or having to close once you get there. And, since it isn't always necessary for the resort to evacuate, be prepared for the possibility of being "stuck" in the room for a day or 2. (not always bad news...LOL) Bring a flashlight in case you lose power. And, once you are there, stock up on a few non-perishable foods if there is a storm threatening. Remember that if the reosrt loses power, so will all the restaurants and stores in the area. And my last bit of advice is to be patient with the staff at the resort if your vacation has to be cancelled, cut short, or dampened by power outages, etc. I understand, all of these scenarios ruin your honeymoon. But the staff at the resort LIVES there. So, there homes and families are being threatened.
I am sorry to ramble. But I work at a resort that has had to evacuate for hurricanes and the stories I can tell would AMAZE you at how inconsiderate and ill-prepared people can be.

Usually November is the last month of Hurricane Season because the waters become a little cooler.

Thanks so much for all the info. I think we should go for the Sandals resort since they have that hurricane guarantee!
I have one more question. :) Does anyone one know if you can book a sandals vacation through a travel agent or is it something that you can only do through Sandals??? Thanks. :)

well, money is all relative to how much you make and spend... we're going with a pretty pricey hotel so it's gonna work out around $2,000 for 7 nights for both of us, not including airfare, but you could probably find a nice hotel that's less expensive. Airfare right now is listed as another $3,000 round trip for both of us but most likely the price will come down the closer it gets to our date so we're hoping to pay less then that but over all, we kinda expected to pay that much for our honeymoon anyways.
you could try a mediterranean cruise, they might be cheaper and you'll see more.
