We are sending out almost 500 invitations & our budget will not allow for hiring a calligrapher. My handwriting is so inconsistent (and frequently messy), so I am looking for an alternate plan for addressing the invitations. Is it appropriate to use labels?? I was thinking about using clear labels. My mom keeps insisting that I check the internet for etiquette concerning this issue....any advice would be warmly welcomed!!

find someone with a good computer printer that handles envelopes and offer to pay them to do it. I did this 3 years ago for a party and it did the return address as well as the to: address in whatever font I chose. CHEAP

I am starting to plan my wedding and we have started with picking out invitations. We bought a program for the computer that will be handling the "writing" on the actual invitations themselves, and the envelopes. Our guest list is 150, and I think the grand total for our invitations AND the program for the computer was like... $200. If you don't want to do that I think that the clear labels would be just fine!! Good luck.

i suggest envelopes that will fit in a printer. most word processors have caligraphy and other fancy fonts that can be printed on envelopes. also, if you already have a computer address book, you won't even have to re-type everything.

I have truly awful handwriting thus we did clear labels for our invitations because a caligrapher was prohibitive in cost. I knew it wasn't "correct" but considered it the lesser evil of badly handwritten invitations the post office would return.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but labels are tacky. With computer and printer capabilities where they are today, you should have no problem getting them professionally printed, or, to save money ask a friend who has a computer & printer to help you, or, you can do it yourself. I am. Best advice, make sure you have a few extra envelopes in case you make a mistake.
Congrats & Good Luck!

I disagree Ana. There is nothing wrong with labels. No one is going to care if you use them or not. I have used them for everything from Christmas cards, to baby showers.
I like to use font 'Monotype Corsiva". It is a cursive script font that is very elegant. If you don't have a printer that you can feed your envelopes to print directly on to them, use Avery Clear labels. They are nice and clear. Just make sure that your fingers are clean so you don't end up with fingerprints on the back of the label, as it will show through on the white envelope.

i would just print them on the printer themselves without the labels. Clear labels are good but if you can actualy put the envelope in the printer i think that would look better.
