I just thought of another question that goes with this topic. Is everybody planning on telling their FH what their groom's cake will look like/taste like? Or are you leaving it a surprise?
edit: uhoh....the posts are still getting out of order! This should be the 3rd post in this thread...not the first.

Are any of you doing a grooms cake, if so can you post some pictures of your ideas?
We're thinking of something like this cake but he's wanting it with raspberries and only two layers that are chocolate like the bottom layer.

We aren't doing a groom's cake at the reception, because our cake is included in the catering package and will be large enough to feed all our guests.
We will probably do a groom's cake at the rehearsal dinner though. I just haven't decided what kind of cake to do.

I let my FH pick his out; he's not a big cake fan so I let him make this simple decision. Plus I felt like usually the wedding is usually so much about the bride that he needed something of his very own to decide on without my say so in it first :) I know that traditionally he doesn't know until he has to eat it what it taste like but we're not really going for tradition for the most part anyway.

I never even heard of a groom's cake until just a few months ago. We're not going to do one. The cake we want will be more than enough for everyone, even with us saving the top tier for our anniversary.

We're doing a groom's cake. Here it is very common & we're definietly keeping that tradition.
Gene knows we'll be having a groom's cake...in fact he picked out the design himself! Since the guys at work call him Superman, it was a given that the cake would have the Superman emblem on it. ;)

It'll be rich chocolate cake with a thick layer of German Chocolate filling & fudge & iced with chocolate buttercream & surrounded by chocolate covered strawberries. YUM! YUM!

I want to do a groom's cake at our rehearsal dinner, but my mother-in-law is coordinating the event, so I'll talk to her about it. I'm not sure who our baker will be yet, but I'd like to get it from the same place (maybe I could get a deal!). We met when we were 12 and Nintento was "our thing" back then, so I'd like to get a cake that looks like the original Nintendo Controller. He'd be so thrilled!

My FH is in charge of his own groom's cake, so it will actually be a surprise to me.
He may not have one, though.
