i thought this would come in handy:

Cake Cutting Instructions

Always cut and serve LARGE LAYERS FIRST whenever possible.
Remove the top layer and place it in the box provided for the bride to keep. If it is stacked directly on top of the cake below you will need to insert a spatula under the top layer and gently lift up and off.
Make a circular cut two inches in from the border on one of the cakes.
From this donut shape cut one inch slices. A slice of wedding cake is one inch wide, two inches deep and four inches tall; about the same size as half of a sandwich.
Repeat the circular cut and 1 inch slices with the remaining cake. Remember, if any cake is left over, it is easier to take home small cakes than parts of large ones, so if possible cut the larger cakes first.
Six inch layers should be cut in 1/12ths, like a clock.

When the bride and groom cut it, do they just cut anywhere they want? I have been wondering that. thanks!

This is April29 but anyway I wanted to say thank you for that post because my FH sisters are doing the grooms cake and I know neither one of them knows how to do this. So thanks I will have to share it with them so they dont mess up the grooms cake!

This is good Information if you ladies look the wilton website they have how to cut square cakes like this as well as heart shaped cakes etc.

I am so worried about cutting the cake bc we are having an outdoor backyard renewal one of my family members will have to cut it so i need to decide who will be the best and give them this.

I think the bride and groom typically cut the bottom layer of cake on what you consider to be the front of the cake.
