We love to hike and have decided to get married on top of a mountain near where we live. My plan is to hike up and change into my wedding dress when we get up there. My only problem is I can't find a dress that is appropriate for the location. I bought a dress online, but when I got it the train was huge and it was a bit too poofy for me. I would like to find something with a short train that fits a little snugger. This is what I found but it seems a little fancy to be on top of a mountain in. I guess no matter what, any dress I wear will look out of place. Is anyone planning a wedding like this? I would love suggestions!!!

I like the one you posted. However, I think if you are changing at the top, you can have anything you really want. I have seen a wedding done at the mountaintop with the big train and poofy dress and it was really romantic looking. I think you can have whatever dress you want and it will look wonderful against that backdrop/setting.

It's a two hour hike so i want to take that into consideration too, since I will be the one who has to carry it up. I still don't know what to do with my hair :D

Hi Becky,

I like the one you posted to. But, let's see - snugger with a short train...how about no train? I found these at bridesave.com, just as some ideas that might not be too bulky to carry or that won't drag on the ground once you have them on. If you look at the "informal" section of bridal gown websites, you can probably find others that you might like better.

Hope this helps!

And I love the idea! Although we are getting married in a church and having the reception in a backyard, we are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro for our honeymoon!

I like the second one. The thing is I really really wanted a dress with a good size train but because of the location know I really shouldn't. So I would love to find something with a short train. Wow! Mt. Kilimanjaro, now there's a hike. It is so worth it when you get to the top though isin't it!! We spent the night on the mountain we are getting married on last weekend. It was great we were all alone, didn't see anyone for two days!!!!

This is the first dress I bought and am now stuck with cause I can't return it  It is so pretty but as you can see the train is HUGE!!!

It's for sale if anyone is interested. Size 8

How is anyone else going to get there, such as your minister and witnesses?

We want to have a very small ceremony. Just Danny and I, best man, maid of honor and ring bearer. Both our parents want to come also. We have a friend that is a JP and is willing to make the hike.

there is nothing wrong with that dress, and it could be used anywhere you want, no reason u cant have it on a mountain

So, I ma guessing there is no other way up there except to hike?? If there is another way up, have someone else bring your supplies up for you. If not, then you might want to consider having one of the shorter dresses because they would definately be easier to get up there.

I saw a few dresses on Nordstrom's website that might work for you. they are very pretty but would lend to transporting easy.

That is such a cool idea to get married on a mountain! We are doing an outdoor wedding in the National Park Service area...we have about a 20 minute hike to get to the spot where I want to do pictures after the ceremony so I am having a shorter train on my dress too...I'm afraid its going to get grass stains and dirt all over it though :( My dress is also supposed to be poofy too, but I don't think i'm going to put the fluffy stuff uder it...maybe just a slip or something to make it a little less formal.

The dress you bought does look like it would be a little much to take a hike with (are you changing out of it to hike back down?)...I agree that its a good idea to find something that takes up less room...How are you going to get it up there without it getting wrinkled?

I am not quite sure how I will get it up there without it getting all wrinkled. I hopefully will think of something. I was thinking of leaving it in the bag it comes in and folding it in half and trying it like that. I am going to change out of it to hike back down. I even thought about wearing white shorts and shirt but I don't think I want to give up the whole dress thing and the traditional pictures and stuff.
I can't wait to see what the pictures will look like!! Whatever happens it will definetly be a day we will always remember and thats the main thing. There is no other way up as 4 wheelers are not allowed on the trail.
I am really excited, but I haven't begun to plan anything yet. I'm so bad about that! Time is running out and we haven't even officially set a date yet. I don't think I want anything big for a reception. I think I will have a small gathering in our back yard. or something, just close friends and a few family members.
Do you have your dress yet?

I was thinking about how you could keep it unwrinkled...I'm an EMT and we get our equipment up and down embankments on sleds...tie everything onto it and drag it behind...maybe you could do that with your dress...wrap it up really good and tie it to some kind of sled so it lays flat and drag it behind you.

No I haven't gotten my dress yet...my aunt is a seamstress and she is making it...but I can't find any one dress pattern that I like, so I've gotten the basic pattern and I'm looking for others that have the elements in them that I like...its going to be a frankenstein dress...she made my prom dress and it had pieces from 4 different patterns and it was wonderful, so I know she can do it.

I don't know what kind of budget you are on, but maybe you could find a dressmaker and do a similiar thing for your dress.

Thats a good idea about the sled. I will run it by Danny and see what he thinks. It may be a little tricky because the trail is steep in places and narrow but I think it would work.
I am seriously considering buying the Jasmine dress I found. I just love it!

And it will cover my feet. I am planning on wearing hiking shoes :D I think a picture with me lifting my dress showing my hiking shoes would be funny. They would certainly be more comfy than changing into heels up there. I will have some heels I will change into for the party afterwards though when we come back down.
I am hoping to save on the wedding so we can spend it on the honeymoon!!

Your dress sounds cool. I hope you post pics when you get it.

Becky,

Not sure if you saw the dresses I posted from Nordstroms, but it looks like those would work for you.

also, try looking at the space saver bags. I have been told that when you put clothes in them and suck out the air that your clothes don't wrinkle. I haven't tried them, but that is their claim. Maybe something like that could work for you because it packs so small, it might allow you to have your dream dress, cart it up the mountain and not have a huge bulky bag to carry. :D

Thats a good idea too. I could try it and if it did wrinkle I would have time to get it pressed before the wedding and then I would know for sure if it would work or not. Thanks! The first dress I bought I thought was my dream dress but when I tried it on I didn't like it as much. I think the Jasmine dress is my new dream dress! LOL! I just hope it will look good on me. It looks like the Jasmine dress is not too bulky. I am cutting it close on getting things on time for the wedding. I am such a procrastinator.(sp?) I never used to be, I don't know what happened. So I think I will order it and if I don't like it, send it back.
I like this dress for my maid of honor. In lilac or something similar in a light blue. I want white flowers and either lilac or light blue flowers, depending on the maid of honor's dress color.

I really like all of your dresses. I hope all works out for you. as for the space saver bag idea i asked my friend who uses them and she says that its works once in awhile she gets a wrinkle in them but you can also maybe get a portable steamer. the downy wrinkle releaser works for crap. but try and see what works. good luck

Thank you. That is good to know. I would hate to get up there and have my dress all wrinkled.
