HELP! I must be the most clueless bride-to-be ever. Two months after engagement, I still don't know when/where/how my wedding is going to be. One thing I do know is that I want (and hope to have) a small but elegant wedding in Hawaii with honeymoon to follow. Other than that, I don't know a thing about planning a wedding, not to mention from thousand of miles away. If anyone can provide your experience and wisdom.... PLEASE PLEASE DO. If anyone can recommend a planner... that's even better!
Thanks in advance.

I don't know much about getting married in Hawaii but maybe do a search online and see what that gives you. Or find a hotel there and see if they can help you. I know that a lot of people use this option so I'm sure someone can give you better advice than me. And don't worry, we didn't set a date until 4 months after our engagement and that was only because his mom wanted to start looking at hotels to have our reception and knew that we needed to get that done soon before the booked up for next summer. Even after that, we didn't start looking for 2 months after that! Good luck!

You should contact a travel agent. A travel agent can take a lot of the stress out of planning your destination wedding. Once they help you select a venue, they should be able to put you in contact with an on-site wedding planner in Hawaii. Usually, these services are offered free of charge.

Last night, I was talking to one of the guests at work and she just got married in July in Hawaii. She told me she found all the info searching online. She said just to type in Hawaii Weddings. She also said it takes less than an hour to get a marriage license. According to her, the most common island to get married on is Honolulu. She found a park that did weddings and they arranged to pick her and her hubby up in a limo, bring them to the park, perform the ceremony and bring them back.

Thanks for all the suggestions. My search for the perfect place begins.
Is (or has) anyone here planning a Hawaii wedding before? Was your wedding date (or a few days before) the first time you visit the location? I will have guests (hopefully under 50) joining us for the ceremony and reception (or many even a few days before or after). How will I know what I envision is actually what I will see at my wedding?
Thanks a bunch! :)

Check out MauiGirl's journal - she did a destination wedding in Hawaii and she didn't use a planner - she had a lovely lovely ceremony! :)

Yay! I just received the nod from my FH that we can and will have the wedding in HAWAII!!!!!
I'm so excited right now....
And today, I found the perfect wedding planner... well, at least their website. Check it out...

Planning a destination wedding is a lot of work to do on your own...even if you are getting married in the United States - like Hawaii.
Hire an expert to assist you. Make sure you get a travel consultant that has experience with Destination Weddings. You won't be paying any more money than if you "do it yourself" and you may even save yourself some money by hiring someone. A good destination wedding travel consultant will know how to put it all together for you, and take care of your booking plus any family/friends you invite who will be attending your wedding.
I know of some really good destination wedding experts...email me a jimpatsean@hotmail.com if you want their info.

Not sure of your budget, but here are two suggestions and they both have wedding coordinators that handled everything for us. I actually married in Kauai in 1991 and you just can't ask for a better backdrop for photos. Only had about 8 guests, but I found it to be less stressful, less expensive and more memorable. After returning home, we did a reception, I wore my dress again and we showed the wedding video on a rented big screen TV. I enjoyed the reception more as well as it wasn't so rush rush and pose, pose.
Check out the Kauai Resort / Marriott in Lihue (808) 245-5000, When I married there it was the Westin and they had a beautiful round marble sanctuary extending out onto an inlet of water with beautiful views of the ocean. They also had beautiful wedding carriages making it storybook. Kauai is a small but magical island.
The other place which is my alltime vacation spot now is the Grand Wailea in Wailea, Mauai. It's absolutely heaven on earth - pricey but outstanding and the rooms and grounds/pool/spa are unbelievable. Keep in mind their website doesn't do the place justice. www.grandwailea.com - or grandwaileaweddings.com
One last note, give yourself several days to adjust to the time change as I didn't know at the time. It was a five hour difference for me and I had only been there one day before my wedding. I was dead at 10 pm and up at 5 am for the first three to four days. Also, I felt Honolulu was too commercial for what I was looking for.
