I just finished reading the thread on David's Bridal and now I'm a little worried. My brides maids are coming from 3 different states so I need to pick their dresses from a national chain. I've had 2 friends get their stuff from DB and one had a problem, the other did not. Do any of you know of any other national bridal stores we could go to? Or do you have any suggestion about what to do? Thanks.

You don't have to go through a national chain. Just find a designer that you like and do a store search on their website. That should pull up any bridal shops that carry that designer. Then you could tell your bridesmaids what store near them to go to get the dress.

My dress and bridesmaid dresses are coming from Davids Bridal. I had heard some bad things about certain ones too, but it all just depends on the store you go to. I live in Indiana but the wedding is in Cleveland, Ohio, where I'm from, and we went to a DB in that area and they were SO NICE. They were very helpful and I felt like a queen! They were polite and answered all of my questions and were very accomodating. So I would just maybe try going there and see for yourself.

I'm not sure if these are everywhere, but down here we have Bridesmarts which are like David's Bridals but with better service. (At least that's the case in our area) Also, you can order through an online retailer and they can ship them directly to each person if you are okay with online purchases.

I didn't go through a natinoal chain and i have out of state bridesmaids. I just had them go to the closest store that carried the deisgner to be measured and then email me their measurements. We then ordered the dresses....once they come in I will ship the out of state ones.

My bridesmaids were in 2 states, and there isn't a Davids near my sister. Since my sister adn I are both very difficult to find dresses for, I visited her in VT and we drove to a bridal shop and were lucky enough to find the perfect dress for her that I thought Karen would look great in also... We used the fabric swatches to pick what we thought would be the best color for both of their skin and got all the information we needed and put it on file with the store.
I then went to the designers website and found the style number (most stores replace the designer style number with a store style number) and local stores that carried that designer for the other bridesmaid to try it on and figure out what size she needed (which she actually didn't and I don't recommend guessing on sizes... duh.. but it actually caused alot of problems for us). We then ordered both dresses from the same store to make sure the dye lots were the same.
Most designers are available at many bridal shops in each town, so you shouldn't really have a problem finding the same dress in multiple states. Even if you do, as long as you choose the dress with every bridesmaids' body type in mind and get proper measurements for each, the store should be able to select the right size without even trying the dress on.
When I tried on my bridesmaid dress for my friend's wedding, they had me try on a size 14... They're ordering a 6, so I think it was kinda silly for them to give me the actual (way to big) dress to try on anyway... and whether or not the style looks incredible on me is irrelevant... I'm not the bride. All you really need to be sure of is proper measurements before you order.

Oh... and I can't really remember and am too lazy to check, but were you looking at the DB in Rochester, NY at one point? If you do end up finding something at Davids and go through that store, I can use my connections to make sure your order has special attention paid to it to make sure it's right. I don't really think there's anything more wrong with David's than any other bridal shop, but since it's a national chain, the issues people do have are easily spread nationwide... I went to 4 bridal shops and actually had the best experience at Davids.

Okay... but at least you know what I'm talking about so I'm not nuts... I'm having lots of braindead, lazy moments today... I know GirlNPink01 (or whatever her name is.... another moment I guess) had a good experience there, but there was someone from another state/town whose mother had dragged her in and she had a horrible experience... I feel like such an idiot cause I was just looking at it :p (It wasn't SueChick either, I don't think... who would've thought there'd be so many Rochester chickies here?)
