Ok, I tried on this dress:
David's Bridal (http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns_detail.jsp?stid=2056&prodgroup=129)
And I really like it. But I'm afraid that the train is going to be too much for my outdoor wedding. Its not that it would be too formal or anything, its just that (this is going to sound weird) I have to turn a corner while actually walking down the aisle. The train won't stay, and I don't have anyone to straighten it for me. I don't want to walk half way with my train all messed up. Any suggestions?

I tried this dress on too. It's beautiful, isn't it?
It doesn't suit my needs, but it really is lovely.
I paired it with a mantilla veil and it looks fabulous!

I don't know, but I think it's just going to get messed up and you kinda just have to deal with it. There should be someone there at the alter whose responsibililty it is to fix the train after you get there.

Any dress you get with a train, you will have the same problem. Just ask your MH to adjust it for you when you get up there. Or someone!
I'm not a fan of tulle, but they did a great job with it on theis dress. It is a beautiful train, and I love the bead work. I think its a gorgeous dress, good luck on making your decision. Make sure you make your decision based on what makes you feel the best and the most confortable.
Best of Luck

My dress had a train and I had to walk out a doorway, down a step onto the planked patio, down 2 more steps, and around a turn. I also had no one there (planned at least) to help with it. We weren't worried about the turn, but my father thought the dress might get caught on the patio. I just pulled a friend aside who I hadn't given a job too and she held my train up until I got to the run, where we paused and she laid it down really quick and we went on... we made sure there was an empty chair there for her.

I think you should just basically do the same... go around the corner and pause for someone to fix it really quick... or have someone there to pick it up and bring it around the corner for you.

We also considered bustling my dress with a couple of the hooks and having it unbustled (is that a word?) as soon as I got off the patio (turned the corner, same thing).

Besides, your train should pretty much get itself right behind you as you walk. Try it out and see exactly what happens when you turn and then walk for a couple feet in it.

trying it out in the store, (turning the corner, etc) is going to be different if the floor is carpeted. The dress will hug the carpet and get muttled up a bit - but if its not on carpet, it'll probably flow more smoothly. I would have someone designated to straighten it for you before you walk down the isle, even if it is your dad. Once you're at the altar, your maid of honor can straighten it.

I had thought about this, but I guess I hadn't planed on "pausing". My FH thinks it would look stupid if I just stopped mid-walk so someone could fix my train.

You're right, it sticks to the carpet in the store and gets all messed up when I turn. I was thinking of getting a runner that's make out of something slicker so my dress could glide nicely. I know this sounds weird... but I've actually considered getting some of that vinyl carpet protecter/runner from Menards or Home Depot. I wouldn't be on carpet, but brick. But I'm still afraid that if there's nothing there that my dress will either get caught on stuff or get REALLY dirty. Do you think that would work? Those disposable runners are too flimsy and I don't think one would be long enough. I have quite a ways to go.

That's an idea... they slip alot on grass, but probably not as bad on brick...

Pausing for a second (that's all it takes) won't look stupid... it will give people time to breathe in your beauty ;)

As my friend at David's says... "If your dress isn't dirty you didn't do it right." (It's amazing what they can pull out of those things.)

If you like the dress but aren't crazy about the train, maybe you could have someone alter the dress and tack the train up a little higher so it doesn't drag behind you. It's a pretty easy alteration. That way, the dress is still pretty and flowing but you don't have to worry about pausing or having someone fix it for you.

Thanks, I like it too. Better than the other dresses I've tried on. This may be the one. :D

I don't think the runner would slip on the brick, especially if we tack/**** it down.
Pausing might be okay... maybe I should go down there and "rehearse" a little bit to see what "looks" best.
And yes, I know the dress is going to get dirty. But I don't want stuff stuck in it. We're going to have to sweep/wash down the brick before the wedding or something. Oh... so much trouble just to get married outside.

I had thought of that too... but I dunno. The dress wouldn't be the same without its pretty little train. I looks so long in the picture... but it really didn't seem THAT long when I had it on. I'm tall and the train falls 48" from the waist. So on me it sticks out about 18" from the backs of my heels.
