I was hoping you girls could give me a little input on something. I have one plus-sized bridesmaid. I asked her what styles she would be comfortable in for the wedding and she said anything that didn't hug her belly. Well, obviously, dresses like that are few and far between. And her comment surprised me because she has really great fashion sense and always looks nice. Anyway, I am rambling now...back to my question....I was thinking about a dress with an empire waist. I have one in particular in mind, I just have to find the site I saw it on. Do you think that an empire waist might be most comfortable for her?

My MOH is petite, but might be pregnant for the wedding. So, I thought the empire waist would be the most forgiving for her also.

Oh...and the dresses are tea length.

Yes empire waist would definately be the best. There was a very cute flowy one on barijay.com. I think they have a couple of cute empire waist dresses.

what does everyone think about black?

Summer wedding, crop dresses, burgundy and orange flowers, no/yes?

Or Burgundy dresses?

like Marcia, I speak for plus sized girls the world over...haha...I would definately say empire waist or A-line. My wedding gown actually gathers across the chest and then flairs out with an insert....something like that would work....or if you haven't picked dresses yet you could go with separates....I am doing the alfred angelo separates for my bridesmais and I picked the skirt (full a-line) and am letting each of them pick their own top My only rule is that everyone has to pick a different top so it doesn't look weird

Black, burgandy, and orange would be so pretty together! I don't know about me having those colors in the summer... but I don't think there's really any rule that says you can't. If I had to choose between the black dresses or the burgandy dresses... I think I'd pick black. Maybe you could have your wedding in the evening? That would make it look less... "weird".

empire or a-line - both flow over the waist area. I would maybe have her try on each style and see which one is more comfortable. Nearly everyone can wear an a-line - the empire waist might be uncomfortable for people that are very top heavy or have basically nothing up top because it does tend to focus on that area

One of the dresses I am considering is Alfred Angelo. I will check out their seperates too. Thanks!!

Hmmm...you make a good point about the bust. She is pretty busty, but it is proportionate to the rest of her. (I am not meaning for that to sound mean).

LOL... that wasn't mean. I thought you put that pretty tastefully as a matter of fact. I might not have been as eloquent. :D

Are your other bridesmaids the same size? I'm 5'6" and about 115lbs. I do not like empire waisted dresses at all. They are not flattering at all.

The MOH is shorter and pretty thin (although she doesn't think so). She has had 2 babies, so she has a few extra pounds from the pregnancies. But she has been planning her kids 2 years apart and so my wedding falls in a time that she may be pregnant (4-5 months along). I thought the empire waist would be easiest for her too. Or will that be totally unflattering?

As a former fat chick AND a former pregnant chick, empire is the way to go. Both of my girls are heavy, and they've requested empire waists. I always felt the most comfortable in A lines, but they vetoed it.

I didn't know she would be pregnant. That look is cute on pregnant women. Belly's look so cute, I think, in empire waists. I thought maybe the others were of a different body shape. I'm porportioned, but I'm thin and it's just that that particular style gives me no shape what so ever and makes my hipps look wide. I know you'll pick the perfect dress. Good luck.

Thanks everybody for your input. BUT OMG...I have a whole new problem. I called my MOH (the one I expected to be 4-5 months pregnant at the wedding) and GUESS WHAT!? She just found out yesterday that she is already pregnant. Ok...yippee...I truly am thrilled, BUT...her due date is 10 days after my wedding! She insists that no matter what she will be there.(obviously, that is not 100% true..LOL) I don't think the dress that I picked will work if she is THAT far along. Oh well, what will be will be. Either way, at the end of the day I will be married to my prince and a few days later, I will have a new little angel in my life!

I just wanted to show you my bm dress. Out of my 7 maids, 5 are plus sized. While empire waists look great my girls tried this dress on and the style is flattering on all of them ranging from my size 6 sister to my size 28 best friend.

Geez Kelly!!!!! May vote is that you do what I'm doing... give her a color and length and let her get her own dress. LOL Then you won't have to stress. Someone THAT preggo will not be uniform with the BMs anyway.

that is exactly what we decided to do. I am just going to pick a designer that has the blue that I want and then let the girls pick their own dresses (in the same length). IF she can still attend the wedding, she will have a place to sit. And we will be listing the new baby in the program as our ring bearer or flower girl...LOL Her other 2 girls are already my flower girls.

What do you ladies think about the two piece bridesmaid dresses?

My wedding is in just 11 days (woo hoo!!!), and not only am I a plus sized girl, one of my girls is. Her problem area is her tummy, she has that pouch which is very noticeable. All of my other girls are twigs tho, so I had to come up with something to do that would not make her look bad or stand out.
The solution- I did mix and match seperates at Davids Bridal. I'm telling you... LIFE SAVER!!! I did a pink A line skirt, with a white strapless top. However, to take your eyes off of her pouch, I put in a pink strap around the waistline to tie into a bow. I'm not sure if you can picture it, but with the pink bow around the white top, it totally takes your eyes off of any flaw a girl may have. And I think that the two piece bridesmaids dresses are perfect. Half the reason I went for them to begin with was the other dresses looked too "prom"ish. The two piece make it look like it was made for a wedding...I hope this helps!

I think 2 peice dresses work for any time/season. I wore a 2 piece dress in one wedding I was in and was able to wear the top many times after the wedding

As a skinny, busty girl, empire waists are a HUGE nono for me... but I think they flatter a pregnant chick of any size, as long as she's actually showing by then.

Neither of my BMs are "fat", but they are both... chunkier than me... they looked great in the mock 2pc I found (also Alfred Angelo). Shopping with my MIL (whoa... no F anymore... unless FingMIL is a good term... btw I just found out she stopped by Ryan's job and told everyone everything about the ceremony and our honeymoon and it's bugging the crap out of me) found layers or the layered look is very flattering for larger women... I hate wraps, but they work well too... especially if people are self-conscious.
