I have decided to keep track of this renewal by way of a new journal. I'd like to keep every detail of our planning from now until 5 years. I had orginally thought to write this all down but my fingers type faster with my brain then my hand writes. I several goals to reach before this time. I do have another journal on here but it was for the wedding and just was to rushed because I found this place so late in the game of things.
How we met: Derek and I met through work at a grocery store. I was dating his best friend and Derek was seeing someone else that he later married. This was in the spring of 1997. Our mothers' were best friends and also worked there. It was through them that we both got our jobs. Derek and I barely spoke, our lives were completely enriched in other things. In 1999 I graduated high school and quit my job to go to college so my contact with Derek was completely lost. The last time I saw him was at his wedding to a girl named Anita. I remember thinking how unhappy he looked but again I was still seeing his best friend (who was also his best man I believe) so I spent more time outside the church with him during things then inside.
Our first date: On May 31, 2004 I was hit by a crazy drugged ****** in a hit and run car accident. My car was totalled but lucky for me it took most of the brunt from impact. I was hit T-bone style right into my Driver's side door. The car buckled but I ***e out with a sprained wrist and a few minor scratches and one seriously bad headache from my head busting my side window. The woman drove off and she wasn't caught till much later. For the next two weeks I barely worked as I tried to heal and so spent much time alone in my apartment alone without transportation. At some point in time I was made aware by my mother that Anita had kicked Derek out back in Feburary or March some time( I can't honestly remeber when) and so he was living with his parents again and not doing so well. He was seriously depressed. Our mother's decided that it would be great Derek and I to go out, even if it was just friends, to get out of the house. My mom's philosphy on this was that I had no car (unfortunately I did get one before the date ever occured) and Derek's mother Linda just wanted him out of her house for a bit. Of course, I hated this whole thing..for one reason I'll share later, but also because Derek was soooooo not my type. Yuck!!! Anyway, after many phone calls between Linda and I and my unfortunate run-in with Derek at the store ( I had to get cheese and he was stocking it so I couldn't avoid him!) we decided to go hang out as friends, since he was still legally married to Anita. He ***e over at 4pm on June 25, 2004. We went and had lunch at Ruby Tuesdays ( it was horrible) but we talked and talked and found we had a lot in common. I was actually enjoying myself. After the dinner, I decided I wanted to go to PetsMart to get my hampster some new bedding and a ball to play in. While we were there I had to check out the cats in the Adoption Center. I was petting an older cat while Derek was playing with this 9 week old solid black male kitten. He was adorable!! I ended up taking him out of the cage and holding him and I was done for. Derek loned me the $45 and I adopted the kitten. I have never regreted that move. The cat is like my first son...but more on him later and his affect on Derek and I's relationship. We named him Lakoda but Koda is what he goes by. Derek and I are both animal lovers and of course the excuse ***e up that Derek should come over so he could see and play with Koda. That is how we explained his nightly visits for a few months to hold off on the fact that we were extrememly attracted to one another. After Derek left that night, I found myself wishing he hadn't....
