OK, so I just have to ask everyone's opinion on this one, I'm not actually doing it but I've always thought it would be cool.

What does everyone think of have a masquerade ball reception. I've always been big into the theatre and have always thought this would be really cool. It would be a ****** to pull off seeing as you would have to convince all of your guests to dress appropriately but I've always though it would be fun.

I personally would love to go to one! I probably wouldn't want to host it because it would be a pain, but I would love to do that! It reminds me of my favorite movie of all time, Labryinth (yes the one with David Bowie and young Jennifer Connely and all the monsters) I love the scene where they are in the bubble and everyone is dressed up like the goblins! I'll have to find a pic of that somewhere to show those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about!

I just got that a couple months ago on DVD (scared the crap out of me when I was little) and it sparked a 3 week long discussion about it at work (I had the Dance Magic Dance song stuck in my head and started "singing" it in our chat room).

Pain in the butt but so freaking cool. (I'm trying to swear less... proud of me?)

I think it would be awesome. But I agree with you ladies...it would be hard to pull off.

Ben hates it when I start singing the songs! Of course I know every last song in the movie word for word, actually, probably the entire movie word for word! I have the video from when I was little and then Ben bought me the DVD when we first started dating! Boy does he regret that now! Love it!

Yeah... I'm not sure how long me being "clean" will last...

Ryan only gets mad when I get songs in his head (umm.. all the time), but he's very good at getting worse ones in mine... He's learned all he has to do is say "You put the Lime in the coke and you drink it all up" and I'm a basketcase for the rest of the day. (I'm so glad that commercial appears to have only been on for a few days before it got pulled.)

He gets annoyed when I turn the radio up when he's singing (I swear, it's just too low) or say the lines along with movies.

Ooh... just thought of one way to make this easier to pull off. Have some of those feathery masks and capes around for anyone who doesn't dress up. They don't wear them, they aren't allowed in. ;)

That is one of my and FH's favorite movies! One of my cats is named Toby after the baby in the movie!

Lucas hates it when I say the lines along with movies too. Sometimes I do it just to annoy him because it will usually end up in a tickle war and those are always fun.

I think I'm going to skip inviting my family to my wedding and just invite all of you ladies, you have been more help to me than any of them and you guys don't think my crazy ideas are stupid.

I went to a Masquerade Wedding a few years ago. Very cool. But some of the guests didn't understand that a masquerade ball is more formal than a costume party, so their were a few really cheezy Halloween costumes. The bride dressed as a princess (no stretch there) and her mum and dad dressed as the king and queen. Her bridesmaids were fully outfitted klingon warriors! One of the bridesmaids was a theater major and did a killer job on the make-up. Not quite what I would want - but really great to look at.

A really cool idea if you want a fun reception and something different.

Hey, I would gladly not invite most of the family at this point :p

I'm not sure you really want to put up with us though, I'm beginning to think we'd be a little uncontrollable!

You could still go with the theme and make it easier on yourself by having only the wedding party and immediate family dress up in costume and give out the masquerade masks as favors for everyone else to wear

We are glad we can help you. You are all invited to my wedding reception!!! Unfortunately, the church will not hold more than 250 and that is my guest list. But my reception site will hold a lot more than that.

My theme is based off of the Phantom of the Opera Masquerade scene. We are placing a "Black Tie Event" at the bottom of the invitations so that people will at least dress up. The centerpieces are handmade (my college roommates and I) using Harlequin masks (with a stick/handle), sheet music, and candles. Our cake top is actually two Masquerade masks that we are purchasing online. We are lucky enough to have a renevated opera house in town that we are using for the reception, so that keeps with the theme. We are thinking of providing masks for guests at the door and we are printing 'opera tickets' with wedding and couple info as guest favors. We wanted to put miniature toy opera glasses on the tables, but that was $500 for 15!!! Too much for us! Anyway, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I was thinking along the same line; have a masquerade theme and give out masquerade masks as favors. One big advantage of this type of theme is that you can use a lot of different bright colors! :)

You could use feather boas to decorate with instead of flowers or balloons... masquerades always make me think of hot pink and turqoise feathers and lotsa sequins!
