Ok, I'm having my wedding next year, the first weedkend in August. I wasn't too crazy about a fall theme wedding, but then I saw this gorgeous centerpiece that had eveything to do w/ fall. I had the pic, but lost it. I'll try to find it on the net again. It was branches in a vase on the table with little lanters hanging from the branches that had candles in them. I love the look. Also there were flowers around the vase. Of course something like that would save a lot of money(less flowers). Any other ideas? I don't want to use the whole leaf theme too much (I'm not crazy about it). My colors are champaighn & gold. Thanks.
Ok, I'm a bit confused. Your wedding is at the beginning of August and you are doing a Fall wedding theme? Shouldn't you do a summer wedding theme? LOL I'm crazy I guess.
Autumn Theme
Locations: Church, Home
Colors: reds, oranges, rusts, and mustard yellows, burgundy & hunter, and wine & navy
Flowers: Orange Gerbera, Apricot Lilies, Rust/Burgundy hydrangea, rust Euphorbia, and mixed garden foliage including Virginia creeper.
Fruits: red currants, apricots and apples
Special Touches: fall foilage, hand-painted hydrangea candles, a plate, and a pedestal bowl in this vibrant fall table arrangement
Autumn happens to be one of my favorite times of year. In my area, fall represents harvest time, leaves turning color and the weather settling into a cool respite from the summer sun. Like many areas, ours is famous for the changing leaves. Nearly the entire state of Washington changes into a rainbow of colors ranging from pale yellows and greens all the way up to deep burgundy and bright red. A truly beautiful sight to behold! For me, autumn also evokes pumpkin patch harvests because of its pumpkin patches, hay rides and of course Thanksgiving and family.
Setting the Tone
Believe it or not, a fall wedding theme can be either ultra-formal or very informal. It all depends on the tone of the wedding and reception. An ultra-formal wedding can easily have elements of a fall/autumn theme without sacrifing the formality of the event. One of the ways in which this can be done is through your choice of colors. A few color combinations that can be considered both formal and autumnal are: burgundy & hunter, and wine & navy. By using these color combinations (as well as many others) you can maintain a formal air to your event while still maintaining your theme. These colors can be apparent in your decor, your flowers and even the attire for your wedding party.
A casual or informal affair is just as simple to create. Again, setting the tone is the key. In this case, color combinations such as rust/brick & kelly green or buttercup & light orange/dark peach can be used. Another way to set the tone of an informal fall wedding is by using decorations that reflect the casual atmosphere. In this case, "props" such as hay bales, pumpkins or fall leaves can be used. In light of the fact that autumn is such a varied season, your only limit is your imagination. You can use any of the elements that you enjoy, and your wedding and reception will reflect those things you enjoy about the season.
Halloween Weddings
The bride can wear a traditional gown and veil. Thinking about adding some fun and interest? Try adorning drop earrings in the shape of skulls. Instead of a traditional bouquet, carry a trick-or-treat bag. Have the groom wear his tuxedo, but instead of wearing the standard shoes, try adding a cowboy hat and boots. Wedding Theme colors should be black and white. After the reception, have the bride and groom go trick-or-treating in their wedding "costumes". Definitely a fun time for all!
Autumn Decorating Ideas
There are many ways in which you can incorporate the fall theme into your wedding. For the most part, these ideas are very simple to execute. One of the easiest ways to incorporate the theme into your ceremony is by adding small touches that reflect fall/autumn. One idea is to use a pew bow comprised of printed ribbon with fall themes instead of the traditional white/ivory. This can range from prints of leaves to prints of pumpkins. For a more formal event, wide burgundy or hunter ribbon edged in gold can be used. Fall colors can be used in floral arrangements and a variety of fall flowers can be used as well. Finally, the wedding attendants can wear colors that reflect those of the season.
Grapevine wreaths can be used on wall spaces at the ceremony or reception site. You can also use the items used for the ceremony as decorations for the reception. Pew bows can be tied to terra-cotta pots and filled with mini-pumpkins or colored leaves for centerpieces. There is a great article online about preserving the color of autumn leaves from the Tri-City Herald if you need help with this. You can also use swags of silk flowers or autumn leaves to decorate. There are numerous silk flower color choices (and fall flower choices) that are sold in the stores for fall decorating purposes and you can browse until you find choices that will reflect the formality and tone of your wedding and reception.
Pumpkins and Squash
There are so many different ways to use pumpkins and squash in decorating for a fall wedding. It can be as simple as squash and pumpkins in various sizes scattered amongst fall leaves...or can be as complicated as painting pumpkins or squash with a gold wash, then carving hearts and flowers into the flesh. You can pile mini-pumpkins or squash into decorated baskets or can use them to house candles (much in the same way as you carve a jack-o-lantern). I'll include instructions below for a candle-holder made out of a mini-pumpkin.
This simple candleholder can be a lovely addition to your reception tables. They're very simple to make as well: just carve out a place for the candle. For a more informal affair, I would suggest a grouping of three (in different sizes) with fall leaves scattered amongst the candleholders. You can set the candleholders on a silk flower ring if you wish for a more colorful look. For a formal affair, the pumpkins would be lovely painted with gold or silver spray paint. If you would like to include leaves, these can be painted with gold or silver as well. For a totally different look, you can try a look reminiscent of topiaries. Fill a terra-cotta pot with Styrofoam, glue leaves raffia or moss on top of the foam...then glue your candleholder in the center. The pots can be dressed up with bows, paint or curling ribbon.

I questioned this to the girls at the knot. I know August is officially fall, but living in TX it's more summer. Would it be crazy to do it still?

In San Antonio, I live by Wal-MArt on Vance JAckson. I grew up on the west side though, by Zarzamora.
I don't know about using another theme. I really like the branch thing, but I'll still check out that website. Thanks.

Hey SA girls! I used to go to UTSA up there, but I'm back in Houston at UTMB! I'm actually going up to SA in a couple of weeks for a friend's bachelorette party. We're staying on the riverwalk. I can't remember if there are any clubs or bars or places to go that are actually on the riverwalk. Any suggestions? I know this is way off topic~sorry! ;) Oh, gen, your pics on your bio aren't working for me. I just keep getting little red X's. Maybe I'll go over to the knot and try it there.

yea me to gen 83 i didnt see the pic's either!!! oh no problem either on frid or sat, what ever type of celebration, theres always something going on in downtown san antonio, how long did you live down here for, well if anything has changed there's a whole lot of places that geat good, well if your looking for fun and really good drinks like double shot drinks at around 7.50 or so on the corner of college st, theres davenport. its upstairs is lounging around downstairs is house music with cool artsy craft paintings and it feels like an under ground basement party,4 drinks, and im good, parkingis a blk down south of college st to the left in an up level parking garage for like 6 $ all night, then down by the new sculpture they put up by a mcdonalds off commerce st down the st is pat o'briens oohh try their house mix drink, a hurricane lovely!! at 7$ try 3 1/2 of those and your too good for the night! then from the parking off college where davenport is at theres polyesters 4 level night club drinks kinda suck there but its real casual real tourist friendly and great music all levels different types of music you'll have a whole lot of fun especially in the cage!!! oohh watch out!!! mostly all the girls go there for a bachelorette party, theres swigs right across the riverwalk and polyesters a martini club small but nice , then theres mad dogs down at the river walk if yor by swigs, walk across the st, to the left and go down stairs and theres mad dogs , ask somebody for directions everyones pretty good at them here, and its not small but not big but good music and everyone dances especially those military guys stationed everywhere. lets see what else,, club rive, and zen bar across of davenport and its like a martini bar there, it just kinda sucks cause it takes them a while to get you a drink from there,. theres coyote ugly there on commerce a blk before that big red sculpture we have, its upstairs and its fun there too, some girls that work there try to dance like in the movie coyote ugly but their a little off, and the only good part of them is that they get to spray the guys with water if requested to do so , maybe a little extra cash in it for them too. now if you want to get away from downtown, theres graham central station off fredericksburg and 410 its big, its got a hip hop room a country, old school, tejano, and a "singing for the drunk" room. real fun ! a whole lot of fun!! lets see theres joes volcano a lot of minors go there but if you cant drink then dont whine!!! its off of ingram rd but i'll stick to down town fun. theres sunset station across the train station off durango st, its fun a whole lot of mixed culture there, it might a little too ghetto for me but it depends on what you like especially when i see some girl i hate, then theres gonna be a real girl fight and im not in the mood for spilling my drink all over me or maybe i wouldnt mind spilling it all over her and making her boyfriend buy me another after im through with her, ughhhh i would really hate to see that one girl in particular there, no names cynthia no names!!! oops!!! well hopefully that'll get you through the weekend if i think of anymore i'll let you know, so what'd ya think? i think the first ones i mentioned are the best!!!

Thanks Nina! We're coming up Saturday morning, doing some shopping and dinner, then some games and drinking in the hotel, then going out to have a wild time! We're staying in a hotel right off the riverwalk so we won't have to drive so that's why I was looking for something walking distance of riverwalk. Everyone wants to party and nobody wants to be designated driver so we figure drunk girls walking is the best! As long as we don't fall in the river of course! I think the hotel we are staying in is off of commerce. It's been like 3 years since I lived there and I only lived there about a year, so I learned downtown, but never drove it, so I can remember where everything was! I'm the type that had to drive it myself or I'm totally lost! I had been to volcano joes, but it's more of a kiddie place. We're all over 21 now so we want to go to the "grown up" hang outs! I'll have to print up the post so I can remember everything! LOL! I tried looking up on the internet, but no luck. Thanks!

Gen, I think you have to upload your pics onto shutterfly or something like that for them to work. I have a bio but I haven't really put anything in it yet. I was going to wait until I had the time to figure it out, but when I get around to doing mine, I'll let you know. I hear you with being busy with school! I have so much homework! That's what I'll be doing all weekend!

Hi! This is my first time posting, I just wrote the longest post about my wedding and my cpu timed out... Ugh. So here is the short condensed version- tell me what you think.
The wedding is at Linden Hall in Dawson, Pa September 9, 2006
http://community.webshots.com/user/pinkyschultz
I set that up so that people from both families could see where it was going to be. I am going to rent a champagne fountain for before the ceremony starts while guests are arriving, and maybe have solid chocolates- we will see what the budget allows. The dinner area will be decorated with cream table cloths and cream pillowcase chair covers with a gold sash. I am going to give lottery tickets out in organza bags with Luck in Love attached to them( I got that idea from here) the place cards will be those glass vases which will be at everyone table with a white rose in the center or some white flower. The table will have votives and sprinkled rose petals. The cake will hopefully resemble this http://www.elegantcheesecakes.com/articles/weddings_2004.html
I am going to have a chocolate fountain after the dinner for the reception.
The link below show what chocolate bridesmaid dresses look like with black tuxs. I personally love it.
