After talking to my FH about this bored and all the random stuff we talk about he got excited about the wedding planning and asked if we could do a medieval style wedding. I’m fine with this. I am trying to find a regular wedding dress with a medieval look to it and he wants to wear a Chain mail shirt with a black leather vest over it. I want the wedding to be elegant and classy. We both love the medieval time period, but I don’t want it to look cheaply done. Is there a classy way for me to pull this off? I don’t want it to be full blown, just the wedding party in medieval garb. Our colors, we have decided, are going to be red, maroon, Cranberry and maybe a dark purple with silver and black accents. Sorry if this makes no sense at all. I told my FH that it would be hard to plan and he said "what do you mean I could plan a wedding in a day" I patted his knee and laughed.

ohhhh sure - he might be able to write the outline in a day, but he certainly couldn't get the details in there in a day! That takes a very long time!
I would ask him to write a wedding plan in that day and then give it to you - then when you read it over, do the "what about this" stuff on everything he missed :P It'll be fun and he'll realize what goes into a wedding.

Now, onto the wedding theme. I've been to medieval weddings and there have been some that were done very classy and others that looked like somethihng that you just went "oh my god!" about. I would suggest having just touches of the time period added in - like the style of dress - and the gentlemen didn't wear tuxes, but nice pants with a silk poets shirt. It looked very nice. The bridesmaids wore maiden dresses as well.

Your colors go great with a medieval theme. I was also thinking lots of candle light. Your wedding programs and invitations could be scrolls rolled and tied with either velvet ribbon or sealed with wax. Of course being a princess you have got to wear a tiara :D If you are having live musicians at the ceremony think of getting a trumpet player to do a fanfare as your FH walks to the alter and as you get ready to enter before the wedding march starts. Also, another fanfare could be played after the officiant pronounces you husband and wife.

Remember to keep it subtle. I am having a Casablanca theme to my wedding because it is my favorite movie. But, that doesn't mean I am papering the walls with pictures of Bogart and Bergman. Keeping it simple will keep your wedding from looking like a circus.

Men...

I'm sure there's a classy way to do it... if you're not having everyone else be midievel, I'd recommend making sure you don't go over the top with anything... very subdued, otherwise it will look out of place and probably kinda tacky.

You may want to go to a renaissance fair and talk to the people there for ideas and inspiration. My boss does a renessaince fair on weekends in the summer, so if you have specific questions, I can ask him for information and see what he knows. There are probably also message boards and websites for renaissance junkies...

I think the colors you're planning are perfect.

That is exactly what I want. Just the subtle touches in there. I think if we do it like that it will come out very classy. I just wanted to make sure that people wouldn’t think it’s weird to only subtly refer to the period instead of doing it full blown. Thanks so much for your help.

I don’t think he could even outline a wedding in a day. I have seen him do his college homework he is like a snail, and thinks forever before he even starts writing stuff down.

Absolutely!

I saw some gorgeous, classy dresses that have a midievil look to them.
For example, Demetrios Illusions style 3026 or search Bridesave.com for "poet/butterfly" sleeves.

I think the way to make it classy is to make sure everything is sparkling clean. (IMHO, Ren Fairs tend to be a little dirty ;) )

The scrolls are a great idea, I hadn’t thought of that. We are planning a tented reception, with lots of candles and maybe some small lights strung along the tent ceiling.

I love those ideas! As for the wax seal, many stationary stores, etc. have them. If you want something truly unique, Ryan and I ordered a custom seal from theattic.com . My only complaint was they suggested a 1" seal for our celtic knot design and I wasn't thinking and said sure... 1" is *very* large for a seal, and there's no reason it had to be that big. It's a very simple knot. I'm not sure if they would have charged less or more depending on the size. We paid... $80 for ours, which is a lot, but it's also very unique and something we'll have to be able to use for whatever we want in the future, as opposed to just a picture of the knot in our wedding album.

Thanks so much. We are not going to have anyone but the wedding party dress up. I think we may have to keep the theme a secret from one of my FH best friends. He works at the Ren Faire and i know he will come dressed up.

i think it would be fun, so much you can do. IF your guess want to dress up you can encourage this, it might look cute. But they might feel weird if nooone else is dressed up

Definately keep it secret then! You've got a great resource in him if you can keep him from getting suspicious... or you can have him do a fanfare or something to have him involved if he does start to notice something funny.

I think the dress you posted earlier will be incredible and really fits with the theme (I love the sleaves). I'm so glad someone found it cheaper! Every penny counts.

Yeah, I absolutely love that dress. My FH actually found it. He was online I guess looking up wedding stuff and called me in to see it. Such good taste. hehe

I forgot to mention that you can get the wax and stamps for the seals at Michael's. If you was seal the invitations though you have to ask the post office to hand candel the intives. This means that someone stamps each one by hand as opposed to running them through the machiene that they normally use. That heats the wax and smears it all over the envelope. My mother tried to wax seal her Christmas cards one year. It looked great when I saw her do if but when mine arrived in the mail it was just thick yellow wax all over the envelope.

Thanks so much for the info. I would have had waxie invites. I love all of everyone’s ideas. Thanks so much, I was practically pulling my hair out.
