Ok i have a really stupid question. When i was younger and thought i was going to get married i tried on gowns, but that was before "panty" lines. I am sure you get the point. Now im older and i have not yet went to go find the dress yet since there is so much time. Im affraid cause i remember they helped you and i dont want someone looking at what i have dont dont have on. any help to avoid an embarrasing situation would be helpfull.
And for those of you in their offices try and keep it down we dont want to get in trouble for laughing too hard ;)

lol...yeah, I'm with you on this. Honestly, if you don't want the consultant seeing your naked tail, then just wear your undies. Once she's helped you into the dress & she's out of the dressing room, you could always slip them off. Or just deal with the panty lines long enough to see if you like the dress. It should really only matter if you are trying on a slinky sheath anyways.

Yeah... I made the mistake of wearing a thong for the first shop I went to... I managed to act bashful and get the slip on over my jeans before taking them off and managed to rarely show my butt off to the sales lady and my FMIL who was with me. I then made an excuse to go home before the next shop.
I'd recommend wearing regular panties and just dealing with any pantylines or whatever... you have to use your imagination anyway because the dress is usually the wrong size, etc. Once you get the big poufy slip on, you can't tell anyway, so as SOM said, it only matters with the sheaths (which I love, of course)... and they don't push those on you as much.. at least they didn't have me try one in any of the stores I went to.

I wore a thong the first time I tried on dresses and quicky learned I could imagine what the dress would look like wearing less revealing underwear. Also a friend gave me a piece of advice I will share. If your dress has crenalin or something rough that if wearing a thong would expose your bare butt to all day then maybe you should cover up because she had a raw and painful butt on her honeymoon because she had wore a thong all wedding day.

Ouch! Excellent point. I had not even thought of that. I decided not to wear one for the wedding since I know I'll need help getting into my dress and didn't want to put myself through any more potential embarassment. Also, my corset has garter straps and I think in that case especially, the regular panties are so much sexier than a thong.

Maybe you could have one of your close friends or MOH come with you to help you in the dressing room so the sales people don't have to go in with you at all...I went with one of my friends and she was glad I did...she had never worn a strapless bra and she didn't know how to wear one, so I went in to help her.

I wore a thong (that's all I own) when I tried on dresses, and I didn't think anything of it. So I lean over to pull up the hem of one of the dresses so I didn't trip as I stepped into it, and the saleswoman was in the room, and I think she was way more embarassed than I was when she got a view of my ***** up in the air! lol

I would say to wear what you are comfortable in. I just wouldn't go au natural for sanitary reason. :D Remember whether you have on granny panties or have the dental floss going up you bum these women have seen it all. You are not the first person that they have helped in and out of dresses. If you do happen to be the first person, they might as well learn to get used to it now. Besides, unless there is something that members of this board are hiding from each other, they all have the same parts that we do right?

Yeah... I've got a good body (actually pretty incredible for not working out at all), but I'm not comfortable with it... And I felt like my FMIL and the salesperson were kinda learing at me. I wish I had your self-confidence!

I have my moments, trust me. There are days when I hate my body and would gladly trade. But overall, I just don't think much of it. I guess it comes from being such a tomboy and having more male friends than female. I never felt the competitiveness with other girls. Plus, I'm used to the guys staring and making comments and being typical guys. Not to mention, Gene is the best self-confidence booster in the world...not a day goes by that I don't catch him staring or that he doesn't make some comment about how he thinks I've got a great rack or *****!

Most of my friends are guys too (well, were, Ryan's a little insecure so I don't hang out with them as much as I did... and lots of my old friends have moved away, etc.). Anyways, yeah... I'm used to it, but I still feel like beating the crap out of them most of the time... I'm more than my body, right?... besides, if people are gonna do that, I want to feel like I look good and I don't. I guess I need to learn how to put makeup on and be more girly... I think that's what I really need; to feel HOT... or like I can if I want to at least.

I just went to try on gowns last weekend and found all this out first-hand. Luckily, I wasn't wearing a thong, but granny panties are almost worse! Ha! I just made a little joke and said "That's my something blue."
The sales person who helped me was amazingly respectful and helped ease the situation. But now I know what to expect.
On a side note, my local David's Bridal has tiny dressing rooms and the sales people don't come in with you to help you. It's good and bad. Good because I'm not buying a dress that I need help getting in and out of since we're doing a private destination wedding. But bad because I felt a little cramped and awkward in there. After that experience, the dress just didn't look as good as the one from a boutique with more class.

You sound like me. I'm not 'girly' and I hardly wear any makeup. I went for my make-up trial alst week and I hated it becasue it felt so unnatural. My skin isn't perfect, so I was always torn between wanting to hide that fact and going without makeup to help prevent skin issues.
I've been trying to wear more, but since I never really learned how to apply it, it's hard. I have a couple of 'fashion experts' in my office though, so they give me their opinion, and have no problem saying what they do or dont like.

LOL! Some of you are too funny! Being on the dance team for years took away my "fear of being naked in front of others"! When you have five minutes to completely change costumes everyone is running around naked! I am fine, but have realized that my openness to being naked sometimes makes others uncomfortable! So I wore cute little bikini underwear when trying on dresses. One particular pair were polka dotted with "pink" written on the butt (Victoria Secret Pink Collection!) and the saleswoman got a kick out of that! I'm sure they've seen it all. It's like going to the doctor's office! Side note on doctor's offices: When I interned in a urgent care clinic (nursing student) it was rather uncomfortable for me my first time to uh, ask a male patient to drop em, but even more uncomfortable when I turned around and the guys pants were around his ankles and he was completly bent over spread eagle! Needless to say I got an eyeful of EVERYTHING! I felt like saying, I'm giving you a shot not a suppository! So if it's a first timer, they will most likely be more embarresed than you are!

I have been thinking the same thing! If 40 girls on the dance team can see what I got, one stranger in the dressing room shouldn't be an issue! Especially since we often didn't wear panties during performances! LOL

What! As a former retail person, and someone who has a heck of a time getting into her dress, I can't believe that! It's hard to get in those dresses and that's kinda... rude.
When I was at Davids, yeah, they left me alone in the room to change into the poufy slip and my bra, but she helped me into every single dress. Yeah, it was definately cramped in there (especially with the million dresses I picked out to try), but we just ended up laughing a lot. It was the one place I was actually comfortable with and didn't have to show off my ***** when getting dressed. (One place actually had me take every dress out of the big private room to the main showroom before looking in the mirror... and some of those dresses were HORRIBLE.)

Yeah, that was the only downside to the place I got my dress at. Their dressing room was one great big room with little cubbies just to hang the dresses and your stuff. Everyone is out in this great big room trying on dresses. there were about 15 girls there the day I was and each had their "assistant" (i.e. Mom or MOH) helping them. It was a little chaotic, but you got over the self consciousness pretty quickly.
