I was watching the AFI's top 100 movie lines on CBS last night. It was kind of fun. (No, I do not work for AFI or CBS...if I did I would be delegating this task to my personal assistant). Anyway, the show reminded me of how much I LOVE the movie Casablanca.

Anyway, I was sitting there thinking of how really romantic and amazing that film was. Then, it hit me. I don't have a real wedding theme or any type of general direction to pull this thing in, why not that movie. So, aside from champagne sauces, white dinner jackets, and potted palms how could I pull this off without it seeming too cliche? I think my idea of formal elegance and this could pull together nicely. It could be very vintage and classy if done properly. Does anyone have any ideas? Someone help.

ive personally never saw the movie, however your describing my thoughts, i thought almost the best way to say it to people was 1920's-1940's tradtion, however noone really knows what your thinking, but google that time period and you can find some great stuff. most sights i looked into was about music and clothing.

You'll definately want to have an upright piano at your reception in honor of the bar scene in which Bogart says "Play it again Sam". You might check with your local schools' music department director, they usually have old uprights. If the high school has an orchestra you might even be able to hire them for your reception. They'd probably be honored to be asked and it might be a lot of fun for them to dress up in the white dinner jackets an all.

If you go to one of the larger music stores they'll probably have vintage music to choose from, maybe even the soundtrack from the movie if they made one.

Another thought would be to check with one of the local college theatre groups to see if they have any props you could borrow. Who knows, maybe they did a production of Casablanca at one time.

This sounds like such a fun theme. You could have your bridemaids in vintage dresses and hats, and maybe even include your guests in the dress theme if you include the information on your invitations.

Other ideas from the era:

A hat, coat check room....
A Cigarette/Cigar girl........ (Candy of course)
Small candlelit lamps for centerpieces...(Check with a restaurant supply)
Vintage champagne glasses....

Good luck :)
