I don't have very much money and I'm running out of ideas so I thought that I would turn you all and ask for HELP! As you all know John & I got married in Maui last month; our reception is July 16th and I'm just stumped! Oh yeah and it's tropical/beach theme.

I already have these things lined up:

The Clock Tower - http://www.intres.com/portfolio/projects/1988_151.aspx
Kinder's BBQ (buffet style) mmmmm so good! - http://www.kindersmeats.com/
DJ - John's friend, he's playing for 6 hrs for $300
***era's on the tables
Guest Book - http://www.miamiweddingfavors.com/Images/guest-book-beach-large.jpg
Party Favors - Champaign glasses (plastic) with tulle around them
(2) Kiddie Pools - to put the beer in
(3) Colored containers for soda's/waters/etc
(2) Hula tableskirts - for the buffet tables - http://www.orientaltrading.com/otcweb/application?namespace=browse&origin=searchMain.jsp&event=link.itemDetails&demandPrefix=15&sku=34/228&mode=Searching&searchDestinationJSP=/search/searchMain.jsp&D=table%2Bskirts&mr=SearchMainMerch_SummerLuau&Dx=mode%252bmatchallpartial&Ntx=mode%252bmatchallpartial&Ntt=table%2Bskirts&N=0&y=15&x=12&in_merch=1&Ntk=all
A crap load of shells
(5) flower garland - http://www.orientaltrading.com/otcweb/application?namespace=browse&origin=searchMain.jsp&event=link.itemDetails&demandPrefix=null&sku=34/447&mode=Searching&searchDestinationJSP=/search/searchMain.jsp&D=luau%2Bdecorations&mr=SearchMainMerchThemes&Dx=mode%252bmatchallpartial&Ntx=mode%252bmatchallpartial&Ntt=luau%2Bdecorations&N=0&y=9&x=12&in_merch=1&Ntk=all
Salt & Pepper shakers - http://www.abcstores.com/browse.cfm/4,703.html
Shell lei's for the guest - http://www.abcstores.com/browse.cfm/4,459.htm
Baby Palm trees - Cousin works at a tree trimming place so we have about 30-50 baby palms

I have more but I can't think of it at the moment. I need help on centerpieces, I was going to have 24 four and half inch tall bowls with beta fish but then decided against it; so now I have 24 bowls at my house with no ideas. I'm at a loss. I'm also at a loss when it comes to decorating the Clock Tower... No open flame, No **** eccept scotch ****. aaahhhh please help.

Why don't you put the shells you have in the bowls and maybe put some raffia or something of that nature around the lip of the bowl and you've a centerpiece where all you have yet to buy is the raffia/whatever you use

I was thinking something similar... sand and shells and beachy stuff in the bowls with the raffia ribbon. Or, fill the bowls with water dyed a more ocean blue and float some tropical flowers and stuff in there. Glass bowls have millions of possibilities. Theres always those little glass pebbles that you can get in different colors. Those are always so pretty displayed in clear glass bowls with candles.

BTW I am assuming the clock tower is your location and not just a model or something, right? LOL Sounds silly, but I'm a dumb&$$ and need clarification. :p

Yes, it's her location, if you click the link by it it's really very pretty.

ok, so you can't affix any decor to your location with anything stronger than scotch ****? Ick! Ok, well, what about fabrics that can be draped or tied? Any other decor you want could be affixed to the fabric and that might make things easier.

I was thinking about putting the baby palms on the table as centerpices and then maybe putting 2 bowls with these crystals http://candleboutique.safeshopper.com/826/cat826.htm?986
and some tropical flowers?

What do you all think?

a little ocean bowl? (here is what i imagined when you said bowls)

the bowl, some sand, fill with water, maybe some river rock(pebbles) a gold fish or 2, sea shells tie some rafia around the lip of the bowl.
or
you can put some hawaiian flowers in the bowls, use colored water with food coloring dye the sand, sand is cheep for 25# bag of play ground sad and home depot is 3 bucks, so inexpensive. go to the beach one night and collect shells, dang if u arent close i can run outside and pick up a hand full then mail them.

use the palm trees as centerpieces, tie some white lights around the base(battery powered)

That sounds like a good idea... I bought a whole bunch of seashells I'm going to use them as confetti but I'm sure I have plenty for the bowls too.

You know I'm going to have to go the Tuesday to view the inside again. From what I can remember the walls are rock so I'm really not sure if I need anything to be hung.

just a cute idea for you...
My mom just got married last summer out at her pool and we did a beach theme for it.
My brother, (very crafty) took an old row boat and painted it and set it on two tables in a line and then we filled up the boat with ice and we used the boat to put all the food in. It was really cute. We used blue table skirts and put them on the tables holding the boat so it looked like water. All of the guest thought it was really neat.

I know it is probably unlikely that you will have an old row boat just laying around but I thought I would share anyways!

Let me describe the inside (to the best of my memory) of the Clock Tower:

When you walk through the door you could go left or right either way takes you up a flight of stairs and for the people who can't handle walking up the stairs they can go straight and take the elevator. upstairs is the place it all happens :p . Hardwood floors, rock walls, and 9 stained glass windows that face the delta, a boxed in full size kitchen, a wrap around black leather bar, a disco ball, and 2 doors - one on each side (back of the hall). I wish I had pictures of the inside to show you.

We are responsible for the whole thing - setting up and taking down - So I can set up anyway I want. We reserved the building for 13 hours; our reception doesn't start till 4pm and people are supouse to leave around 10pm so we can clean up... if they choose to stay they will be helping :p

That sounds like a cute idea. I have seen a small boat on a stand that was filled with mai tai's. I tried to get John to make one for us but he didn't really go for it. Oh well I tried

My mom has a bowl in our house that has a pillar candle in the middle surrounded by sand. You could throw a few shells in the sand too to add to the beach theme. And you can probably find some inexpensive candles at a dollar store or somewhere...

It would be so much easier if I could use candles. :(

you can always go with the battery operated votives - they're not overly expensive. I still don't understand why you can't use candles. Its a STONE building - you can't burn down stone :P

I don't know; maybe they're worried about the hardwood floors? It sucks but I can handle it. ;)

LOL... I figured out what I'm going to do about the centerpieces :D You ladies were a big help too. I'm going to take the bowls that I have and put sand on the bottom layer, then shells, then 1 Hibiscus flower (Hawaii state flower) and then I'll spread some shells out like confetti.

Yes, you can start your own topic...it just has to fall into one if the categories they have (Ettiquette, Invitations, Brides on a Budget, My Wedding Journal, Gowns, etc.)
