So I am finally in the same state as my fiance after living in Florida for the past 3 years and him in NJ. So we went to the mall the other day to pick out shoes - not related to the wedding; and stopped into the local tuxedo shop. My fiance sees the new green that is out for the proms recently - its almost a lime green a pale bright green (if that makes any sense). Well we decided to go from the original blue to this green since he liked it so much and well I still have done minimal planning. Can anyone offer suggestions on what looks good with this green? I am coordinating the Kim Anderson's Pretty as a Picture into the wedding too, so something to match those as well.

Second isssue: My mother finally broached the topic of me getting married after I have been engaged for 13 months. She did not accept the idea of a dessert/cocktail style reception or the fact I want it to be a late night reception. Any advice? Her opinion is that if you dont feed someone then they wont come, but I plan on having an abundant of appetizers and desserts along with open bar. I just dont want the stiffy formality of a "normal" wedding reception, and would rather have it as a fancy party like a cocktail party so everyone feels like they can have a good time -- at the same time as hopefully spending less money on my part.

Thanks for all the help again.

I'm using a lime green in my wedding with a bright/hot pink, yellow and blue. There are lots of flowers that are available in all these colors too. I'm not sure what the kim anderson thing is

As for the lime green, I would check with the tuxedo shop to make sure it is going to be avaliable. A lot of time the "hot" new colors that you see at prom season are only aorund for a limited time. However, if it is avaliable, I would try to tone it down with some neutrals. That much lime could hurt the eyes after awhile. ;) Maybe work with some soft pinks for the maids dresses with pink and green flowers. That would ultra preppy looking. Or, maybe a soft purple.

The idea of a cocktail/dessert reception isn't a bad idea. As long as it is later in the evening, like after 8 people would understand that a dinner won't be served. Make sure to put on the invitation something like, join us for cocktails after the ceremony... Also, take into consideration your crowd. Are the majority of your guests young late night party people or do you have a more subdued crowd? A late night party reception would have worked for us 5 years ago when we still had a lot of swinging single freinds with no kids. But now, it just woulnd't be a good idea. If your guests are all older and not into late nights, maybe have a happy hour cocktail party instead. It would be wrapped up by 7ish and people could go out and get dinner afterwards.

armitage...In regards to the reception...if your "dream" reception is the cocktail reception, then go forward with your plans. But, (and this is where I am afraid I might hear a backlash from some folks on here)...if the reason you are doing the cocktail reception is to save money, tell your mom that if she wants you to have a dinner reception then she can pay the difference.

Now, depending on your mom, that might mean you give up a little control. It seems some other parents have felt that paying gives them control. But your mom may be understanding (like mine) and pay the difference and still let you make the decisions.

I totally agree! if she's insisting on more than what YOU and your fiance want, then she can write a check! Its your wedding, do what YOU want! It sounds like you're prepared to feed people a plethora of goodies at your reception anyway! I think whatever you do will be beautiful!

Actually, I want a dessert/cocktail reception. My goal is to not make it like other weddings where it is "stuffy" boring same old same old. I want my reception to feel like a big fancy party. So what I desire is lots of horsdeurves (wow i messed that spelling up) and lots of different and favorite desserts with an open bar. I want people to mingle and dance as they please and not waste an hour or so on sitting down and waiting for food, that most people complain about anyway. Now, I do need help on making this work to teh best it can. So anyone have any ideas would be 100% appreciated thank you.

I also am having trouble with the new wedding color of green that we are going with. It will be a toned down version of a lime green so its not as bright but around that color, and not as pale as a celedon. thanks for the help as always.

Thank you. I did get some ideas from the pictures you sent, however definetely not doing green and pink, but like I said I did like some of the ideas so when I find a color to replace pink it will be one more step forward.

What about using peach instead of pink? That might be a pretty combination and would help to tone down the green. :)

I don;t know exactly where Mt. Dora is, but Lake City is easy to describe. It's right in the middle between Tallahassee and Jacksonville... basically where I-10 and I-75 intersect.

I like the idea of peach with the green. Or you could pick my favorite, purple.

Oh, and even if it IS a coctail reception, if you're having an open bar, invite me!! hehehe You don't need to feed people if you're going to fill them with drink.
