Well, I have been on this site forever and never started a journal, so it is about time I get one started I guess.

How We Met

March 17, 2001 was my best friend's wedding. I was the MOH, so I had been very busy leading up to the wedding day. I was going to take a week's vacation starting the day after the wedding to kind of relax and at the last minute, I decided to delay the vacation a week. I wasn't planning on going anywhere, just catching up on things that had taken the back burner because of planning my friend's wedding. I still don't now what made me delay the vacation...but I am SO glad that I did...

March 18, 2001 I returned to my job at the front desk of a resort. This was the first day I set eyes on my FH. He was a guest and I saw him standing at the elevator. I swear (as cheesy as this sounds) that I was drawn to him. I didn't necessarily feel like it was romantic, just like I knew I was supposed to know him outside of work. I had never in my life at that feeling. It was so strong that I made a mental note of that moment.

He would come up and ask for this or that and my belly would just fill with butterflies. I kept telling the girls at work how sweet this guy was and how adorable...blahblahblah. Anyway....

March 19, 2001 was one of the worst nights at work ever. We had a huge storm and all the rooms were flooding because the rain was coming in right under the balcony doors! Normally at night it is just me and the pool attendant...the 2 of us couldn't keep up with all the problems, so I called in some reinforcements. Pool tables were flying everywhere...one even flew OVER someones HEAD! It was AWFUL! But I work best under pressure and I was kind of enjoying it...

So then this guy that I thought was so adorable GOES TO THE BEACH anD SWIMS IN THE OCEAN! It was like a hurricane and this guy goes for a swim? In the dark?

Then he comes in, looking like a drowned rat and starts asking me questions like, what is there to do in this town? Where can someone go for a drink? What do you like to do in your free time? So, I totally get the drift of where this is going...finally he asks me out for a drink. Well, naturally we aren't supposed to fratinize with guests, so I had to get permission from the powers-that-be. Fortunately, the Powers-that-be were part of the reinforcements that I had called in. So, he went upstairs and changed and then ***e down and played in the gameroom until I got out of work.

Our First "Date"

We went into the lounge at the resort and ordered drinks. We had all the normal "just met" coversation. Then we went for a walk on the beach, since the storm was over. It was nothing short of magical. We felt instantly like we had known each other forever. He even said that it felt like something you would read in a book.

He told me he hadn't planned on coming to Florida, but his mom begged him to meet her there at the last minute. His mom lived in Tampa and he lived in Georgia. I had known his mom and step dad for a few years because they were timeshare owners. I explained to him that I was supposed to be on vacation that week. It just seemed meant to be.

The first gift he gave me...

The next day he went to MGM with his mom and step dad, so I was anxious all day to see him when he finally ***e in. When he got back he gave me a stuffed Sorcerer Mickey. And after work, we went for another walk on the beach. The was when he asked how I felt about dating someone that had kids. I never even caught on that he had kids. Finally, he told me when he felt reassured that I wouldn't run off. :) This is also the night he told me that he had considered moving to Florida to be closer to his mom, but he had planned on moving near Tampa (the opposite coast from me). Now he was reconsidering!

So, October of 2004, we set the date while at lunch with my mom. She made the comment that whenever we decided to get married, we shouldn't plan the date during hurricane season. Out of the previous 5-6 weeks we went without electricity for more days than we had it. So, we were all quick to agree hurricane season would be avoided. The next thing I knew, FH said " How about march 19, 2006?" We checked the calendar and it worked, so the planning began! (without an engagement ring  )

I have a ring now. But I didn't for about the first 5 months or so. My Nanny gave me her engagement ring from one of her marriages (her husband, Russ, passed away just a few months before my mom found out she was pregnant with me). We took it to a jeweler who had the diamonds put in a new setting for us.

OK, so here are some of the things we have gotten done...

ceremony and reception location
www.tavernandchapel.com

The ceremony will be in the chapel and the reception will be in the 'tavern'.

caterer
www.jmcater.com

We will be having a Chef's Station (probably London Broil with Port Wine Sauce), a seafood entree (probably either salmon or tilapia), a chicken entree, salad(undecided what type), 3 sides (also undecided) and of course the cake. We will also have butler passed hors d'ourves and a gourmet coffee and tea station.

Our colors are blue, silver and white. We are using stars as our theme. I am still looking for invites with stars (hint, hint) I have only seen a few styles and I really didn't care for the.

I am also looking for Save the Dates magnets. I have been to a lot of sites, it is just a matter of narrowing down my choices.

Our first dance is Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra and our last dance will be Dean Martin's version of The Way You Look Tonight.

These are our placecard holders http://store.yahoo.com/myweddingfavors/vase-placecard.html

I will post more later...

We decided last night not to use the placecard holders that I posted earlier. I am a little disappointed because I had found them months ago and have invisioned using them ever since. But since half our guest list is traveling from out of state (NY, MI, TN, and IN) we realized that glass might not be the easiest thing to pack. :( The placecard holders were going to be our favors also, so as an alternative we are getting Angell & Phelps star shaped chocolates. Their factory is local, so we thought it would be nice to represent our area somehow.

I am SO excited! 4 years ago my best friend (and MOH) moved to MI with her husband. They have since had 2 gorgeous little girls, that I miss terribly! Well, they just got news that another company has offered him a job and they will be moving back to Florida! I cried my eyes out the day they left and now I am crying because they are finally coming back! They both really wanted to get away from the winters up north. WOO HOO! yeah! My MOH will be able to go dress shopping with me and everything!

I am so glad you guys like them! What I really love is that they are a little bigger than the normal Save the Date magnet, so you can mail them just how they are.

BUT....What a stressful day! My mom went to my reception location to make a payment yesterday. The girl we usually work with wasn't there and she spoke to another girl. Somehow the caterer ***e up and the girl told my mom that we are paying too much for a caterer. So, my mom call me this morning and says that maybe we need to look at other caterers! We are paying $65 a head for our caterer. I know it sounds like a lot, but it includes A LOT. The girl told my mom that we shouldn't pay more than $40 a head. SO, I call the location and speak to the girl I have dealt with from day one. She reassured me that I would not be able to get all that I am getting for any less from any other caterer. She said that the other girl probably just hasn't worked any of the weddings that used my caterer, so she doesn't know what a difference a really excellent caterer can make.

I was shaking I was so shook up over the idea of having to find another caterer. I know that is it is silly to get so upset over something like that. But you girls understand...we just have those days.

On the other hand, I called the officiant today that we are planning on using and set up a meeting for my FH and I to go meet her. She is so sweet and I want my FH to like her as much as I do. So..yeah...one more thing out of the way!

We talked to the officiant that we were hoping to book yesterday. She is so sweet, I absolutely love her! She said she is willing to incorporate anything we want into the ceremony, except skinny-dipping...she doesn't want to be laughed at she said! LOL She is crazy! She said you can "dance in like fairies if that is what you want". :p So, we went over ceremony ideas and I am just so excited because it feels like things are really coming together.

Oh...and the rose petals I got off ebay were delivered today. They are perfect. Thanks, nle5, for recomending efavormart. Today we are going to Angell & Phelps to check out some favor ideas. We thought it would be neat to include something from our area since so many people are coming from out of town and Angell & Phelps makes their candies here, so...

I have been so lucky with so much of my planning...hardly any problems. The only problem I have really had (until now) is getting an actual guest list from my FMIL. I asked her for it in December. In APRIL, I managed to get as far as having her list the guests while counting them on her fingers. Last month, she was in town visiting, and I asked her AGAIN. I made sure she understood that I should be getting the Save the Date cards any day and I wanted to mail them all together. Well, I have had the Save the Dates for more than a week and still no list. We have called her nearly everyday to remind her to email us the list, but still nothing.

To top it off, she told us she wanted to give us our honeymoon as a wedding gift. (that isn't the bad part...LOL). I was thrilled! When she asked if we had made plans yet, I asked her what our budget would be. She said $5000. That worked out perfect because what I wanted was $4385. So, I made all the arrangements and gave her the reservation numbers so she could call in the payment. The honeymoon has 2 seperate bookings, so there are 2 seperate deadlines on her getting the payment in without losing the reservation. One deadline is today and the other is tomorrow. As of last night she still hadn't paid ( I called her to check). And I looked online at the reservation today and there is still no payment showing. AARRGHH! I love her to peices, she is a total sweetheart, but OMG...she is killing me!

Kelly1Mickey

WooHoo! we called FMIL tonight before we went for dinner and she still hadn't made the payment for the honeymoon. We reminded her the reservation would be lost if she didn't pay today. Well, after dinner, I checked on line and..yipee...she made the payment. And we should have the guest list tomorrow. Plus after dinner we went to Micheals and bought all the bud vases and regular size vases we needed for the reception. Oh, and I forgot we bought some votive candles and holders too. YIPEE!

Kelly1Mickey
07-14-2005, 11:49 AM
OK...STILL no guest list from the FMIL! I have sent all the Save the Dates to my family in NY, I am just waiting for her list to send them to FH's family in Indiana. UGGHH! This is so frustrating. There are only about 10-15 people on her list, how hard could it be! I managed to gather the addresses for the other 120 guests! Ok...enough ranting about that.

New rant...the other day I got a message from my photographer. She wanted to know if I had received the inquiry package she had sent and had I hired a photographer yet? HAD I HIRED A PHOTOGRAPHER?!?! I hired HER!!! So, I called and spoke to her husband and explained to him that we had put a $400 deposit down. He left the message for his wife. She called back apologizing profusely. She explained that when we ***e in to talk to her, she just never removed us from her inquiry file. So, everything was fine, but holy cow was I scared for a few hours!

OMG, the bridal shop (David's!) did this to me! I took my gown in for my fitting on a Monday and left it there so they could do thier thing. The next day, I get home and there is a message on my machine asking if I'd gotten my gown yet. I was like WTF, b/c for one, I bought my gown off the rack, so I didn't have to wait for it or anything, and second, I'd JUST dropped it off, so I was a little freaked. When I called them, the girl that answered was like, oh, we must've had your name confused with another dress. I'm still a tad scared...

I just got the worst wedding related news so far. I found out a couple of weeks ago that my MOH is pregnant and her due date was 10 days after the wedding. Well, she went for a check up and it turns out she is having twins (that part is great news! I am very excited about the twins!) The bad news is that her due date is now just 5 days before the wedding. There is no way that she will be able to be there. I am so heartbroken...I really wanted to share this with her. James even offered to change the wedding date, but I don't want to do that. I am just so sad...

Kelly1Mickey
08-23-2005, 08:09 AM
So, I have finally gotten over the shock of not having my best friend at the wedding. I am still sad, but I am at least over the shock. For a few days, I didn't feel like even discussing the wedding, much less doing any planning. I haven't even been on here as much.

But anyway...do you girls think it would be stupid not to list anyone as my MOH? I have a girlfriend I can ask to be a bridesmaid, but I don't want to ask her to be my MOH. I don't want my other bridesmaid to be MOH either.

Lets see...what other wedding news have I gotten behind on?

OH...I do have some good news. I am getting a great deal on an ocean front banquet room for my rehearsal dinner. It normally rents for $800 for 5:00-10:00. We are getting it for FREE! This will take a load off of my mom. Even though my FMIL is paying for the rehearsal, we were going to do it at my mom's house. But with everything else going on, it will be so nice for her not to have to worry about hosting the rehearsal dinner.

you do not have to list a maid of honor. OR you can list your friend as your maid of honor - and let people know that her blessings have prohibited her from attending in person but that she's right next to your heart :)
I would also give one of the bridesmaids a cellphone to hold behind their bouquet so she can hear the ceremony! Just like they did for Phoebe on friends! :P

I looked and so far its all UK. :(

I'll keep looking though.

Kelly1Mickey

I am planning on using sparklers instead of bubbles, rice, etc. So, while I was searching around for deals on sparklers online, I ***e across some star shaped sparklers...STARS IS OUR THEME! And I would LOVE to use these if I could find a good price. The problem is, everywhere I have found them is a UK based company and they only ship within the UK.

So, I will keep looking, but I thought I would call on all you ladies for some help. If anyone happens to come across some of these available in the US, can you let me know the website? Please? Thanks!

Kelly1Mickey
09-09-2005, 07:00 PM
Thanks Sarah for looking! I have pretty much given up on the star shaped sparklers. I wonder if they are made from different materials that can't get approved in the US? Anyway, we are actually thinking of scrapping the star theme altogether. We really haven't bought anything that had to do with stars yet, so nothing is really lost. I think we probably won't have any theme at all.

And since I haven't updated my journal lately...

As I mentioned before, my MOH won't be able to attend the wedding, but I still want to recognize the help she has given me so far, so she will still be listed as the MOH. But, to even out the bridal party, I asked another friend of mine to be a bridesmaid. She happily filled in and has called nearly everyday since to see if I needed any help. I was going to ask her to begin with, but it would make the bridal party uneven (I know...who cares, but ya know...) so I guess things all worked out for the best.

Now, I just have to find new invites since the ones I picked months ago, I only picked because they had stars on them. And I had planned on ordering them this month...I better get cracking!

I think the second dress-the first one is nice-but I don't know. I think the way the girl is standing or something makes me not like it as much. But number 2 for sure!

kg4eoh
09-11-2005, 06:22 PM
I like number 2. I think the one with the ribbon in the middle could make some people look kind of cut off in the middle and make them look weird. The other one seems like it would look good on a lot more body types.

kg4eoh

THanks ladies for your input. The second one is the one I am leaning toward too. And kg4eoh, you are probably right about the first one not looking good on all body types (and I do have one bridesmaid that is plus-sized).

Being plus sized myself, that is what brought on that comment. I know anything that is belted in the middle like that doesn't look as good on me because it chops me off in the middle and brings attention to my problems spot!

I actually like them both, but like it was said before they might not look good on all body types. I know from trying on dresses I had to wear a dress that looked like there was two pieces otherwise I looked like I had huge hips. so you should have them all try one on(if they are able to) to see what it looks like.

I found a neat website that I wanted to remember and share with you girls.

www.perfecttableplan.com

It is really just trying to sell you a program, BUT if you click on the HINTS link, it has some great advice and ideas for table names. There is even a link for "I love you" translated in about a million different languages (I know somebody on here was doing that for their table names). And it has a link for famous couples names.

And even though I am starting to sound like spam, I think I have been around long enough that most of you should realize I don't work for them.

Thanks everybody for giving me their opinions ont he bridesmaids dresses. I am pretty sure we are going with the Alfred Angelo:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b368/Kelly1Mickey/alfredangelo6904ne.jpg

I just have to make sure one more bridesmaid likes the dress. She doesn't have the internet (I don't know how she survives! LOL), so I have to get down to her house with a pic of the dress. And I am stopping by a bridal shop to check the color swatches on it. I think either the Riviera Sky or Blue Jay will work, but I want to double check. Then it is off to the jewelers to look at bands and get a few pieces of jewelry repaired. And we have to go by the tux shop to see what James wants for his tux. Ummm..what else? Oh, of course, stop by Michaels to buy the matting for the guests to sign. Hopefully, we will get everything done in time to meet my parents for dinner tonight.

Ok...I feel like we had a really productive day. I decided on the color for the bridesmaids dress (Blue Jay). Now as long as the other bridesmaid likes the dress...that part is done.

We also went to the jewelry store to look at rings. We have one particular family store that we always go to. We didn't plan on actually buying any rings today, but we both found some that we fell in love with. AND, they were ON SALE! Yeah! So, we ended up putting them on layaway to hold the sale price and we will go back in the next day or two to buy them. I will post a pic when I can. James just wanted a plain gold band that was comfort-feel. I found an gold band with diamonds that curves perfectly along my engagement ring. There was another ring that I liked more by itself (and it was less expensive), but it didn't look right with my ring. James ring was only $30 off, but mine was $200 OFF! I couldn't believe it!

Then we went to Micheal's and bought the matting.

I talked to one of my bridesmaids yesterday. Her and her husband have decided to renew their vows next year. Their wedding was Sept. 2004, but it was the day before Hurricane Francis hit. She ended up getting married in her living room with like 10 people there because everything in town closed and people were evacuating. She spent her "honeymoon" boarded up in the house for the weekend in a Hurricane.

She asked me to help her with the planning. I am SO excited that after my wedding, I get to go right into planning another one!

I don't know what has gotten into James, but all of a sudden, he is super-anxious to help with wedding stuff. He has been willing to do anything I asked him to, but now I don't even need to ask. He asks almost everyday if there is anything he can do today to help. Just in the last day or two, he has taken care of a few details with the DJ, got the paperwork we need to get our passports, and ironed out a few guest list details with his mom. He is being such an angel! No wonder I am marrying this guy!

We paid off the location today! That was a big relief. And we paid towards the liquor bill too. And my mom surprised me by renting the guesthouse at my location for me to get dressed in.

We got lots of payments completed this week! Yeah! We paid the balance on the locations ($2390.93), paid the fee for the site I will be getting dressed in ($266.25), paid towards the bar bill ($1500), paid towrds the suites for out-of-town guests ($500), and paid off the photographer ($1777.93). Now we just have to pay off the caterer and finish paying for the bar and the suites and we are pretty much done. Woohoo!

I'm a bit partial to Maggies because I just love them! But the Bonny one is gorgeous too! Do you have any pics of you in them? I don't really like the David's one, it looks like it has way to many little details on it. (or maybe it's just a bad pic???) Just my opinion!

I like the first one, I love the detail on the dress. I found when I tried on dresses, I didn't like the plain one. I think the bottom one is a little to plain. I couldn't really see the detail too much in the middle one.

Yeah! My vacation starts tomorrow! I decided some time with no work would be really helpful in getting some things wrapped up as far as wedding plans go. So starting tomorrow, its no work, and all wedding plans! James is taking the week off too. So we can finally finish registering and shop for bridal party gifts. We have a tasting with our caterer Tuesday, so hopefully we will finalize our menu choices. I would say since I won't be at work, I probably won't be on as the boards as much, but since I will be doing so much wedding stuff, I might have a million questions I haven't thought of yet. And I will definitely have lots to add to my journal. Unfortunately, I will be working really late tonight trying to get ahead for the time I won't be here.

I went dress shopping today and I am reallt leaning towards the Bonny. The Maggie dress that I liked is being discontinued. I could have ordered it today, but James said last night that he didn't like it. And, the shop didn't have it onsite for me to try on. The lady said she could have it there in 20 minutes, but it seemed that the dress just wasn't meant to be mine.

The first time I went dress shopping I saw the Bonny dress on a manequin and immediately loved it. And today when I went back, I was still drawn to it...the pictures don't do it justice and I just feel like the dress in The One. But, they didn't have my size to try it on (the one on the rack was a 4! Haha! I have NEVER been a 4! Even when I was dancing competitively and in the best shape of my life!) So, we are taking advantage of the "borrowing" policy that Bonny has. A dress inmy size is being shipped to the store for me to try on.

So, here is the dress again!

Anyway, she wanted me to get on and tell everybody she said hi and that she misses everyone since she hasn't been on in a while. Her car was stolen last week, so she hasn't really been in the mood to get on the forums much.

Awww, poor thing. Man, someone stole her car! That sucks! Tell her we love her and miss her! And welcome to you!
thanks! It does suck and I have been totally miserable. I will probably be breaking even on the loan when the insurance decides what the car is worth. So I won't have anything extra to get another car with. It was stolen while I was on vacation from work trying to get some wedding stuff done. Needless to say, that slowed down the progress a bit. We did manage to finish registering at 1 store (whew! it took 5 hours and we only registered for about 45 things!) and had the tasting with the caterer in Orlando.

And James got the new job he was trying for, so we are excited about that. He will be a lot happier with this new company and will be making about 50% more than he is now. THat bit of good news is the one thing keeping me from losing my mind over my car.

And thanks, jodi, for letting everybody know that I was thinking about them. And can tell I was really missed by the overwhelming response to me bad news.

You know, when James and I first moved in together, he moved somethings I had from one closet to another closet. It bothered me SO much that he moved MY things. I am an only child, so I am used to my stuff being exactly where I left it. Having someone take my car is just devastating. When I bought this car (a Matrix) and I traded in my Cavalier and I cried my eyes when we left the dealer with the new car because I felt bad for leaving the Chevy with a bunch of Toyotas. I am such a dork, but I get totally attached to things like that. THank you for the support!

And I am glad you like the Bonny. When I first saw the dress in the shop, I thought it was beautiful. But when I saw the pic, I wasn't as impressed. THe pics just don't do it justice.

LMAO...I'm NOT an only child and I don't like to have my stuff touched! lol Some jerk broke into my car on New Years Day or that night and I found out the next morning when I was heading out to work. Took my custom system and all of my CD's. I was so bent. So I feel your pain.

And I think it's cute that you get so attached to stuff like that. I do it too. I have things that no normal person would keep. I have bits & pieces of the ***aro I had before my current one. I wrecked it and I cried so hard, my mom thought I was gonna pass out. I wouldn't leave the car until the tow truck ***e to get her. And when I found out it was totalled, I even kissed her good-bye. lol

As for the dress, I seem to recall that you'd posted a pic of yourself at one point, and if memory serves me, I think the Bonny will look amazing on you. You're going to be a stunning bride! :)

I was just reading through your journal and I had this same problem. I asked both of my SIL's to be in the wedding and they accepted. Both are pregnant. One lives in Portland a few hours away and is due in January, she's fine and will make it. But my other one lives in North Carolina and is expecting TWINS 11 days after the wedding-she won't make it. I'm excited too, but wish she would be here. Now they are having complications and may have to have them in a few weeks... Just in time for the wedding :-)

These centerpieces are going to look great!

Where did you get the candle stands? I found some at Walmart for $9 for 5 and then at Ross Dress for less for $7 for 5...They are almost the same thing :)

My mom found them in a catalog. I think they were $5-7 for the set of 5. We aill have them on 6 of our tables. We are stilling trying to figure out the other centerpeices. We will have about 20-25 tables, so I didn't want to spend thousands just to have a floral arrangement on each. Some tables will have flowers, but some will have simpler centerpeices like these.

It is such a terrible conflict of emotions! I mean, I am SO excited about the twins (we just found out she will be having one boy and one girl!), but I am SO disappointed that she won't be with me on my wedding day! I am an only child and she truly is like a sister to me. I was her MOH and we had a blast. I was even going to recreate some of our memories from her wedding day for my wedding day (i.e. dancing together to songs we danced to at her wedding). And, since her 5 year wedding anniversary is just 2 days before my wedding date, I was going to surprise her and her hubby with a mini version of their wedding cake. Oh, well, enough whining! LOL

Well, everyone, I FINALLY ordered my wedding dress! It is the Bonny that I posted earlier (pg.8 post #80 in my journal). Everytime I see it, I think it gets prettier. The ship date is December 27! That will be here before I know it! Yipee! I am so excited to have that FINALLY out of the way!

The centerpieces are going to be perfect! What color linens are you using? White? Or are you going with a color to match the wedding?
I haven't made a decision on the linens. Our caterer has some really gorgeous overlays to choose from and I just can't pick. If I use a blue overlay, I won't use the blue petals. Gosh...I don't know what I want to do. Any suggestions? My colors are blues (different shades), white and silver accents.

I was thinking about that too. I will just have to bring some of the petals the next time I go see the caterer. That way I can hold them up against the linens. If I did white underneath and a blue overlay, the blues would have to coordinate really well. If I did blue underneath and a white overlay, the blues would be a little more forgiving. Don't you think?

Anyway, like I said, the petals will just have to make a trip to the caterers with me! (as if I go anywhere without my wedding notebook!)

It will be such a relief to get it on! I get so stressed out over the plans sometimes that even accomplishing the most minor detail is a relief. So getting the dress in will be HUGE!

Well, I actually wanted to use colored linens, but I was worried that having color right under them might take away from the color of the flowers. So instead, we rented blue table cloths that reached the floor and used white square linens that the reception site had and put them over the blue. Since our tables were round, the white linens hung to points around the table, and the blue was showing all around, which gave us the color I wanted with the white on top, which allowed the flowers to stand out. I know I've got a picture of the reception site before the wedding. I'll try to find it and post it for you to see.

Another idea would be to find silver linens...the blue petals would be beautiful against silver.

I was thinking about that too. My caterer has these gorgeous sort of sheer silver overlays that has swirls on it. Sheesh...I think this linen decision is turning out to be one of the hardest ones yet! Maybe I will go see the caterer on this week and get her opinions. She is the sweetest girl ever and super patient and understanding...she won't mind standing around staring at linens with me for a while...

I'm using the same colors. I want to try to find silver squares to put on white table clothes. Then I'm using silver, white and blue rose petals around our centerpeices.

My mom just called from a florists. Our original plan was to order roses in bulk to decorate with, corsages and bouts. We were going to make the bouquets because I really only wanted a hand-tied rose bouqet...very simple and we already experimented, so we knew we could do it on our own.

Well, my mom started talking about maybe getting the bouquets done by the florist too. She just called saying she found some at a very reasonable price that fit what I wanted. So, I told her that if we were REALLY going to get them done by a florist, what I really wanted was roses w/ stephanotis. So, she mentioned it to the florist and they said we had to order them in groups of 25. And that it would be $100 for the 25 stephanotis! THat is a lot of money for flowers that don't even have stems! LOL

Anyway, my mom didn't think that was so bad. I got the cat. numbers, so I can stop in there later and look at the bouquets that they were talking about. Yipee!

I posted earlier that my mom had stopped by the florista and gave me the cat. numbers of some bouquets that she thought fit the description I gave her for what I wanted.

She must be crazy! Well, not completely crazy, but a little bit. I don't know how many times I told her I just want roses and stephanotis in a tight little dome with NO greenery. Well, she got the tight little dome right, but there was tons of greenery and baby's breathe hanging out the sides. So her and I just have to figure out a time we can go there together. Oh, well.

I wasn't going to do any of the "This day I marry my friend..." things because my cousin did it for her wedding a few years ago. Basically I just bought white cardstock 8 1/2" X 11". Just fill in your info in the templates, cut and put together and tie a ribbon on the top to hold it all together. I also bought vellum overlay for the first page and pretty ribbon and charms. I'm just going to print it out on the cardstock on my home computer. I downloaded the font Balmoral D for the monogram on the front.

*foot stone to go with pedicure set
*gel candles in a margarita glass

We are planning on putting gift baskets in the resort suites for our out-of-town guests. I don't have my list right here, but off the top of my head we are including: Bubble Bath in a dolphin thingy (I think it is pictured in my journal, if not, I will add it later), a beach ball, lists of restaurants and area attractions, resort activities, sunscreen, schedule of wedding events, and some very basic groceries (all the suites have full kitchens). I can't remember what else we are putting in right now. We plan on packaging it all in a sand pail (the resort is on the beach).

I haven't decided what I am giving to our parents yet.

Are you doing a plated dinner? Or is this a buffet style meal? I was just wondering, because you've got so many choices. And so many of them sound good!

It is buffet. We have 3 entrees (one from each group I listed, 1 salad, 3 sides, and 2 hors d'ouevres. We will have a gourmet coffee and teas station too, but I don't have to choose anything for that.

OKay, girls, I am having a problem. Our Best Man is dating a girl (actually they are living together now) that is currently seperated from her husband. I don't think that the divorce has gone through yet. I know that she would be our Best Man's date, so I thought I should invite her to the shower. But, if I invite her to the shower, then I feel like I HAVE to put her name specifically on Clay's invite. The only reason I am having a problem with that is that I think she is still married. I feel funny specifically inviting a married woman on a man's invitation when 'the man' isn't her hubby.

As I am writing this, I am realizing that if I were the one giving the advice, my first thought would be to just give her her own invite. But, I don't want to do that. What if they break up before the wedding? I don't want her to think she is still invited.

Ugh! What should I do??

We went to the tux shop today. We decided on a 3 button Tommy tux. James will have a platinum vest, the groomsmen will have Blue Frost vests, and my dad will probably be in a black vest. Yeah! One more thing out of the way....!

Personally, I'd invite him '& guest' and don't worry about inviting her to the shower. Unless you are inviting guys and girls to the shower and you plan to invite this guy, then I wouldn't worry about it.

I thought about that too. I just feel sort of bad because I have hung out with this girl. The four of us go out to dinner and they have come over the house together a few times, so I feel bad not inviting her. But I think you are right anyway.

So, you agree that it would be weird to put her name on the invite since she is still married? I wish Clay would just start dating SINGLE women! It would make my life so much easier! LOL

If you say that you've hung out with her and went to dinner with her, than it may be rude to not include her on the invite. What if someone did that to you? Invited your FH and put "and guest". How would you feel? Even if she is married, you said that they were seperated and they are living together, it's still proper to invite her by her name.

I understand what you are saying, that is why I am so unsure. I would feel terrible if someone put me as James' guest on an invite (his cousin did that to me). BUT, I am looking at it from the husband's side of this too. Maybe what she tells him and what she tell us is 2 different stories. Maybe HE thinks the seperation is only a trial. It just feels sort of unethical to specifically invite a married woman to a wedding as her boyfriend's guest.

I really like this girl, too. So it makes it even harder. But, Clay doesn't have the greatest track record with girls. His last girlfriend (who I couldn't stand) was also married when they started dating. She did get divorced. Then she moved into his apartment and eventually moved into a house that he bought. They didn't even last a year (actually he was still with that girlfriend when he started dating this one). This new girl is perfect for him though and I really want her to feel welcomed by his friends. BUT...she isn't divorced yet....oh, where is Dear Abby when I need her?! LOL I will get my mom's opinion on this...she always knows what is acceptable...But if course, if anybody has anything they want to add, my ears are open!

You were right when you said that he needs to start dating single girls! If you really like this girl though and from what I understand, you consider her a friend, why wouldn't you invite her also (instead of "and guest)? I guess maybe if I was in the same situation, I may feel different but this is just my outside opinion on it. What better way to show her his friends don't care about her if you invite her as "and guest"?

I do like her, but if she and Clay broke up, she would not be invited to the wedding. That is why I don't want to send her her own invite. And you are absolutely right about how she might feel if I invite her as 'and guest'. But that where is I just keep going back to, "But she is STILL married"! If she wasn't married, this wouldn't be an issue at all. I would list her name on Clay's invite and she would be invited to the shower.

Thanks, Alley, for debating all of this with me. I am trying to look at it from as many angles as possible. YOu have been a huge help.

Yeah, James and I talked about it. But, he doesn't really care how I handle it. He is going to try and approach the subject of the divorce when he talks to Clay so we can try and get some insight as far as what stage they are at. I don't know if they have actually filed yet or anything. And it is sort of an awkward subject to bring up. Maybe Clay will just call us with the good news that her divorce has been finalized. That would be a great relief! LOL

Bacon and Chive Mashed Potatoes
Fresh Broccoli with Red Peppers
Zucchini and Yellow Squash
Roasted Garlic New Potatoes
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Cinnamon Glazed Sweet Potatoes
Savory Rice Pilaf

And looking at what you've already chosen for main entrees, I'd probably knock any variety of mashed potatoes out of contention. The others seem a bit classier, I guess.

I just got back from ordering the MOH's dress with her! Yeah! They expect it to be here February 24, but he said they have been coming in earlier. It is cutting it awfully close, but it will still be here in time. And we have a friend that does alterations, so we know we won't have to wait long for those to be done.

And, best of all, the MOH LOVED the dress that she tried on in the store. SO, that makes me happy that she is happy!

Marcia...my car was found and it was totaled. Insurance covered the loan (thank god), but not much beyond that.

I was offered 2 jobs recently and one was too good to turn down, so I am finally leaving my current employer. But I have been very busy learning the new job AND wrapping things up with the new one.

Plus with wedding plans and holiday stuff...I have simply been running out of hours in the day.

I am so glad to see that some of you noticed I have been MIA! It is nice to be missed sometimes! LOL

I really hope soon I will be able to get on and catch up on everyone's journals! I feel so out of touch!

OK...FINALLY I have a few minutes to update you ladies' on my new job!

About 3 weeks ago, my boss pulled me in her office and told me that there was a position open for another company that is closely related to my current company. See, the president of our management company, also oversees the management for Spinnaker resorts. He ***e to my boss and long story short, I was offered the job with the other company. It took some time to arrange the interview and in the meantime, Hilton called me for an interview also (I put in an application there months ago when I left work ****ed off one day). So, I went for that interview last Tuesday. My interview with the Spinnaker property was Wednesday. I guess the Spinnaker interview wasn't really an interview, but more of an introduction to the job. Evidently, there really was no question to whether I would get the job or not. So, about 15 minutes after I left the Spinnaker property, Hilton called and offered me a job too. But it wasn't nearly enough money.

The new job will mean more money, better opportunities, a 401K (finally) and other great benefits. The greatest part is that I will already be promoted sometime in the spring! AND, since I was 'recruited' from my current employer and the 2 companies work so closely together, they are trying to arrange so that I don't lose any tenure. I have been with my current employer almost 9 years, so it would be great to have that count towards earning vacations etc with the new employer.

It is really hard for me to leave my current job. I love it there and I work with amazing people. Last night was our Christmas party and the pres. of the management company announced that I would be leaving there for better opportunities and he talked me up so much I must have been the brightest shade of red. Everyone has very high expectations for me, so I am a little nervous, but very excited! Wish me luck!
Thsi is part of the reason I haven't been on much. The holidays, the wedding (3 months from today! OMG), and then the interviews. Plus, I have been learning my new job a few mornings a week and then driving down to my old job (nearly an hour) to train someone for my old job! I am actually HOME for a few hours today!

That sounds fabulous! I hope everything at your new job goes well! I wish I had a job that I loved, well more coworkers that didn't irritate me.

THanks! I must have cried a hundred times last night at the thought of leaving them! They really are like family and have been so supportive of this new opportunity. I wish they could come with me! lol

I know how that feels. I like almost everyone here (everyone except my crazy slacker coworker). At our holiday party, me and 2 of the other girls in the front office all had our 5 year service award and the boss was really talking us all up. We do so much hard work up here that if we didn't, no one in production would have their jobs. The boss also took all of the front office workers (7 workers, 4 bosses including him) all out to lunch last week to thank us for all our hard work. It is really nice when you feel like you are being appreciated for your hard work.

My Nanny bought the china that we registered for as Christmas gift! It was delivered last week, I just haven't had a chance to post...

She bought service for 8 plus the creamer and sugar set, veggie dish and a serving platter. So, I added a few of the accessories like other serving dishes, cass. dish, etc. Yippee!

I almost forgot to tell you girls the big news! As some of you know, I have been planning my wedding for last 14 months or so, but I never had an official proposal. We just set the date one day and had my ring made and that was it. Well, I had a hunch last week that James was making plans to finally ask. We went to Disney on Thursday and he asked me there. Specifically, he proposed behind Minnie's house in her garden. There is this funny little gazebo with heart shaped 'windows'. We go to Disney somewhat frequently, and we always joke about that gazebo and proposals/weddings. It is just a cheesy little place that has a lot of memories for us.

My parents were with us that day, and I knew something was up because my mom was taking TONS of pics all day of the 2 of us. And, well, we already have every pic imaginable of us at Disney...why the sudden need for more?! Well, after the proposal, I understood better...that Disney Day was a special one.

It is platinum. The only problem now is that I don't know where to store it! I guess it time to start shopping for a China Cabinet. It is so sad to just leave all that beautiful china in the box that it was delivered in!

I have been wanting to find some totes for my girls in the bridal party, but I have been putting it off because I wanted to make/decorate them myself. I found some white totes at Michaels and beaded their names on one side and their title (Matron of Honor or Bridesmaid) on the other side. I finished the MOH's and it turned out SO cute! I will try to post a pic soon because I can't wait for you girls to see it!

We have platinum as well, what a gorgeous look! Mines Kate Spade "Noel" by Lenox. What's yours? I can't believe you have only 77 days left. That's so exciting! I still have 180 days left, and I'm getting antsy! You better post pictures of you in your dress!

Hey girl! It's coming up so fast! Where's your dress and tote pics girl? I am still waiting for my dress to come in too! What's left for you? Have your invitations come in yet? Okay I know a million questions, but I am so excited for your wedding! It seems like we've been planning forever and now it's finally coming up! How hard was it to bead the tote yourself? I planned on getting my bridesmaids totes, but right now I'm low in the money dept. and if I bought them it would be like $70 or $80 since I have 6 bridesmaids.

Well, the dress ***e in, but I haven't been able to get to the dress shop yet to try it on or anything. The dress shop closes at 5 and most days I work until 5, so....hopefully one day this week I will be able to swing it somehow.

I forgot all about the pics of the tote...I will have to get that done. They were much easier than I expected. I just wrote on the bag in pencil. Then I strung some beads, layed them on the bag, then went back and tacked them down.

The invites did come in and I have been trying to get them all addressed. Someone suggested on here once to number all the response cards so if someone forgets to write their name, you still know who it is...Well, that is a GREAT idea...but holy moly, it makes things a lot more complicated because you have to make sure that the correct response card is going to the right people. At this point, I am HOPING someone forgets to write their name down so that I feel like the extra work is worth it! LOL

James pointed out to me that the wedding is 10 weeks from today! ONLY 10 weeks! I thought I had so much done....but it never feels like I have caught up on the TO DO list! LOL

I'm using that idea for the response cards. It also comes in use for names that you cannot read.
