A guy I work with went there for his honeymoon and he said it was absolutly wonderful.
I would definitely call a travel agent and decide if you want to do all inclusive, etc.

Good decision: using a travel agent! Your honeymoon is too important not to have an expert and an advocate on your side. I don't know if you made your reservation already. If you haven't, ask your travel agent for information about Adventura Spa Palace in Riviera Maya. Here's the link:

It's all-inclusive and beautiful! The reason I recommend this one is because it's not uncommon for the sea water in Mexico to have strong currents. When my wife and I went to Cabo, we were warned to stay out of the water. The Adventura has a beachfront lagoon that is safe, if the current is too strong in the ocean. Check the photos on their website.
Congrats and have fun!
P.S. If your honeymoon is after December 31, 2005, you'll need a passport. I'm going to post an article on this forum in the near future, if you'd like to read it. In the meantime, here's the link to the State Department's website for all of the information you'll need to get a passport:

I have recently went to The Mayan Riviera and my fiance and I stayed at the Copacabana. We have travelled to many different all inclusives in the Caribbean and our favourite is always Mexico (specifically the Mayan). The sand is white WHITE and the water is blue BLUE. I know a lot of friends and co-workers that have been back to the Mayan repeatedly and I have never heard a bad thing about any of their trips their. Our friends are leaving on Monday for their honeymoon and are staying at the Aventura Spa Palace. This resort is supposed to be beautiful. I will let you know when they get back from their trip. I always say that All-Inclusive is the way to go. Food is great, drinks are cold and service is excellent!

Me and my fiance traveled there last November, and LOVED every minute of it. We stayed at the Gala Beach Resort, in Playacar. I have never in my life seen a beach so breath taking! There are so many nice, all-inclusive hotels down there. It's definately a great vacation. Also, lots of shore excursions to do. We swam with dolphins and visited Xel-Ha and Tulum. What a wonderful place to start your marriage. Ask a travel agents for a list of all inclusive hotels! You can go wrong! :) :) :)

Hi Vic,
I actually live in Mexico. What are you looking for in a honeymoon? There are a few things you should know and I will start with no particular order:
Playa del Carmen - nice place, some Hotels are in the downtown area but the beach there can be very crowded and lots of music. 5th Avenue is great for a stroll to do shopping or have a bite to eat. The resorts in Playacar (just outside Playa) are mostly AI. Personaly I feel a better option than the RM as its still close enough to walk away from the resort if you want a change.
Riviera Maya - All resorts are situated off the highway with a single road leading to the Hotel. Perfect if you are not really interested in Mexico and just want a 'luxury ghetto' for your vacation. Please do not misunderstand, most resorts are beautiful BUT you have overpriced shops in the Hotel, only the Hotel restaurants and bars and if you want to go anywhere you need to either book a taxi or hire a car. Please note that some resorts DO NOT have a beach (Aventura Spa Palace for example) For those who wish to get married there, most AI resorts will charge you a daypass for outside vendors (normal) Be aware that the Palace Resorts, i.e. Moon, Sun, Beach, Cancun, (Aventura Spa Palace is a bit more relaxed) try and make it very difficult for you to hire your own vendors, the Moon Palace wanted the daypasses AND 40% commission!!!
Cancun - Despite having a reputation for spring breakers, a lot of Hotels do not permit them anymore. The sea has the most fabulos colors of the whole coast (unless you go to the jungle Punta Sam area) and there is regular cheap transport with something for everybody in Cancun. The beaches are not crowded even now in high season and you can find romantic, quiet spots as well as party beaches.
Isla Mujeres - Great little caribbean style island, laid back, beautiful beaches (north beach) plenty to do, shops, restaurants, etc.
Isla Holbox - Very very quiet untouched island. Hardly any tourism, lonely long beaches, beautiful green ocean, restaurants, no nightlife, no cars just golf trolleys, ceiling fans only 1 hotel has a/c. Very romantic if you want to have a secluded island. Loads of mosquitos at sunrise and sunset!!
