Jennifer is klutzy (clutzy?) and does not do well with shoes with heels on them. So I joke about getting her a custom made pair of Nikes to wear under her gown and this is what she is planning on doing. Well, one of the nurses I work with at my new job about died when I told her this (I'm the only guy in the clinic other than the docs and the girls are always asking me about the wedding stuff; basically I'm being treated as "one of the girls, who just happens to be a guy" to quote one of the senior nurses (I'm honestly not sure whether to take it as an insult or a compliment- but back to the story)). She proceeded to tell me that Jennifer "HAS" to wear some manner of dress shoes underneath her dress; I pointed out that it's long enough (I've never seen it on Jennifer, but I have seen the dress), no one will notice the shoes. So this is where you ladies come in? What do you think we should do?
UUUMMMM, I know others think it is appropriate however I do not. While I will not be wearing high heels with my dress, I will have a dress shoe on. The dress shoe has a very small heel on it of about a 1/2 inch. I think Jennifer would be ok in a similar shoe. Why pay for a wedding dress just to put Nike shoes on?

My aunt wore decorated tennis shoes for her wedding and the only people who knew were those she told. But another idea is what my mom did, she also can't wear heels because she has a bad back and it doesn't give enough support so she wore ballet slippers, still elegant yet with no heel and way more comfortable to dance in. I'll be wearing heels but mainly because I am over a foot shorter than my FH. Good luck and hope she finds something she can wear.

She can wear whatever shoes she wants to wear. In fact, dyeables makes a wedding tennis shoe. They're all covered with lace and really cute - this ***e to style after the movie "father of the bride" where her father made her a pair of lacey tennis shoes. I think it would be very cute :) Even if she decides not to wear them for the wedding, she might for the day up to the wedding - they'd also be comfortable at the reception :)

If you're not doing the garter toss, no one will see all of the shoes anyway. When her dress is altered, they take it to the tops of her shoes, so you will only be able to see the tips of her toes more than likely if that. I think she should do whatever she is most comfortable doing. It is your wedding. My friend and my cousin both wore "wedding tennis shoes" on their wedding days. It is more important that the marriage is happy not what shoes she wears! lol No one will remember that in a year anyway more than likely!

I say whatever goes, everyone always says its your wedding so do what you want, why not apply that to this? I want to be comfortable and will probally wear flip flops or converse because thats all I wear and I too would fall off heels.

Of course...whatever she wants is fine. Personally, I would wear ballet slippers or a very small heel. Then at the reception wear the sneakers.

A girlfriend of mine wore white Keds that she attached pretty crystals to. No one could see her shoes during the ceremony, and then the crystals made them pretty for the reception (during dancing, garter toss, etc, you could see them).
I'd say wear what she is comfy in. The last thing she wants to do is twist her ankle or fall.

Thanks for everyone's input. She saw the "wedding tennis shoes" but was like "Not no, hell no", because she can't stand "froo-froo" stuff as she put it (she's a tomboy at heart) and isn't big into lace and stuff like that.

LOL! I totally agree! I can't stand all of the fancy lace stuff either. I am wearing some very basic white shoes with a low heel for the wedding even though my FH really wants me to wear some very high fancy heels. No one will see them so why should my feet and I suffer? (Maybe I'll get a pair for the honeymoon night though :o )I will also be buying a pair of ballet slippers in case I've had enough of my new dancing shoes at the reception. Does anyone know where I can get a decently priced pair of those slippers? Everyone seems to charge an arm and a leg for these things and I'll only be wearing them once!

haha! this woman sounds like my long lost twin! :P I'm not a froo froo person either - not by any stretch of the imagination. I don't own anything pink, the only thing that I have that has lace on it is a slip - which I've worn once under the ONE skirt I own :P I'm a jeans and cowboy boots kinda girl :P

try Wal Mart or Target or any of the large chain stores, they usually have something along those lines.

I think the nikes are a good idea. I personally am wearing heels for the ceremony and then for the reception I have a pair of white flip flops with beads and sequince on them. I love flip flops so I thought why not. :)

I think she should wear what she wants and what is most comfortable to her. I personally wore wedding flip flops with my dress because we got married in Las Vegas and it involved a lot of walking. It is her day and she can do whatever she wants.
