I am having a terrible time finding an appropriate "father" daughter dance for my wedding. My father actually passed away very unexpectedly almost a year ago. My mother and I have had some issues, so I have asked my future father in law to walk me down the isle. I get along wonderfully with both of my fiance's parents and rest of his family. This is a second wedding for both of us but we have still chosen a formal wedding as neither of us had one last time around. I would like to have a father daughter dance at our wedding so that my fiance can dance with both his and my daughters 11/15. I would like to dance this dance w/ my future father in law but am having a terrible problem finding something appropriate!!

Do you know any of his favorite songs? What type of music does he like? I sure would hate to give some advice if you or him does not like that certain type of music.

A lot of times in situations like this, I have seen people pick songs like "unforgettable" - it pays homage to your own father - that you haven't forgotten him - and also compliments your new father in law and how wonderful he has been to you.

you leap awake
In the mirror of a bad dream
And for a fraction of a second
You cant remember where you are
Just open your window
And follow your memory upstream
To the meadow in the mountain
Where we counted every falling star

I believe the light that shines on you
Will shine on you forever
And though I cant guarantee
Theres nothing scary hiding under your bed
I’m gonna stand guard
Like a postcard of a Golden Retriever
And never leave till I leave you
With a sweet dream in your head

Im gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So youll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you

Trust your intuition
Its just like going fishing
You cast your line
And hope you get a bite
But you dont need to waste your time
Worrying about the market place
Try to help the human race
Struggling to survive its harshest night

Im gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So youll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you

Im gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So youll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you

I have an odd relationship with my father, and i'm still not sure if we are doing a father/daughter dance yet. If we are, it will be to Stand By Me by Ben E. King. Not too mushy, but still appropriate. It might work for your situation too.

When the night has come,
and the land is dark.
And the moon,
is the only light we'll see.

No, I won't, be afraid
Oh I-iiiiii won't
Be afraid
Just as long as you
stand, stand by me.

So darlin', darlin'
stand...by me
Ohhhh stand by me (x2)
Stand by me,
Stand by me.

If the sky -
that we look upon,
Should tumble and fall.
or the mountain,
Should crumble to the sea.

I won't cry, I won't cry.
No I-iiii won't shed a tear.
Just as long
As you stand
Stand by me.

And darlin', darlin'
Stand, by me.
Ohhhh stand by me.
Woahh stand now,
Stand by me.
Stand by me.

(Instrumental Portion)

Darlin', darlin'
Stand, by me.
Ohhh stand, by me.
Stand by me.
Stand by me.

Whenever you're in trouble,
Wont you stand, stand by me.
Stand by me.
Ohhh stand by me
