Well, I thought it might be nice to keep a journal as we are going through the planning so here goes nothing.
David and I met on a blind date on 11/21/03. Some mutual friends set us up-the wife is a co-worker of mine and her husband is a lodge brother of Dave's. They told us virtually nothing about the other person. They told David that I was nice and "not too bad looking." They told me that David was tall with glasses, bushy hair and he was Jewish. :D
We met for dinner with our friends at a Mexican restaurant. We couldn't decide how we wanted to handle the check, so we went Dutch which made my girlfriend really mad lol!! Then we went to a $1 movie and we really just hit it off. Before we knew it, we were holding hands. After the movie, the 4 of us went for drinks and dancing and it just seemed that David and I were so comfortable, that we had known each other for years. Our friends pooped out about midnight and we went for pie and coffee and talked until 2 in the morning. David drove me home and asked for a 2nd date which I readily accepted.
We have been together 1-1/2 years now and David moved into my house in March and it is soooo nice. We have been through a lot-the death of my former stepson last July, the death of his grandfather and now his father is dying but we have had so many wonderful moments.
We had been discussing marriage before David moved in and we finally set the date for September 9, 2006. I have been married before so I am trying to keep things small but elegant. David has never been married and he wants to have a little glitz. So far, things are coming together quite nicely.
We have picked out our wedding rings so far. We will have gold rings that read" I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine" from Song of Solomon. His will be in Hebrew and mine will be in Gaelic in honor of my Irish heritage. David is still looking for my engagement ring-I want a blue topaz or tanzanite ring and he wants to surprise me with it.
Our colors are lavender, peach and coral.
We are planning on honeymooning in Australia, which will be my first time traveling outside the country. I am nervous and excited about that!
That's about it for now. :D

very sweet! If you don't mind me asking, are you going to convert to the Jewish faith and have a Jewish ceremony or are you going to go non-denominational?

Hi Reecey,
We are going non-denominational and incorporating some Jewish traditions like the 7 blessings and the stomping of the Mazel Tov glass. I may decide to convert when/if we have children though I am not being pressured to do so. :p

Wow, usually I hear sad stories from a blind date. I am glad everything has worked out for you. It sounds as if all of the wedding planning is coming together quite well for you and you know what you want. I just have a couple of questions ---
1. What are the seven blessings and how do they fit into a wedding ceremony?
2. What is the stomping of the glass? What is the history or relevance of this tradition.
I understand these are something Jewish people incorporate in their weddings but do not understand why.

I understand these are something Jewish people incorporate in their weddings but do not understand why.
The stomping of the glass reminds Jews of the destruction of the temple, the fragility of life and how the relationship must be treated gently to survive.
The 7 blessings essentially praise god as the creator of the world, as the creator of man and woman, who created joy and celebration, etc.
The text follows.
1. You are blessed, Lord our G-d, the sovereign of the world, who created everything for his glory.
2. You are blessed, Lord our G-d, the sovereign of the world, the creator of man.
3. You are blessed, Lord our G-d, the sovereign of the world, who created man in His image, in the pattern of His own likeness, and provided for the perpetuation of his kind. You are bless, Lord, the creator of man.
4. Let the barren city be jubilantly happy and joyful at her joyous reunion with her children. You are blessed, Lord, who makes Zion rejoice with her children.
5. Let the loving couple be very happy, just as You made Your creation happy in the garden of Eden, so long ago. You are blessed, Lord, who makes the bridegroom and the bride happy.
6. You are blessed, Lord our G-d, the sovreign of the workd, who created joy and celebration, bridegroom and bride, rejoicing, jubilation, pleasure and delight, love and brotherhood, peace and friendship. May there soon be heard, Lord our G-d, in the cities of Judea and in the streets of Jerusalem, the sound of joy and the sound of celebration, the voice of a bridegroom and the voice of a bride, the happy shouting of bridegrooms from their weddings and of young men from their feasts of song. You are blessed, Lord, who makes the bridegroom and the bride rejoice together.
You are blessed, Lord our G-d, the sovereign of the world, creator of the fruit of the vine.
