So if we like rock kinds of music... and I'm talking about musicians who say "bad" words in their songs, what kinds of music should we have at our reception? I'd like music we can dance too... be we both HATE country and R&B stuff. What would be appropriate, but still within our taste? Oh, what to do... what to do...

I love Punk and my family... well don't. Thankfully I listen to most things, well everything except rap. We are playing some punk, rock, jazz, classical, salsa. Our first song is a tango :) I like the Strokes, Interpol, Coldplay, Dance Hall Crashers etc. they have good songs that don't say "bad words" for the most part. Oh and U2 also. Unfortunatly we can't play anything like Tool or Skinny Puppy. I think my right-wing relatives would be a little disturbed. My advice would to go through all your cd's and pick out songs that you like that don't have and naughty words.
Hope this helps

Your DJ could better help you with this - many groups also have "radio edit" versions of their songs that the DJ will have or can get - play your songs but play a cleaner version if available. Also, you'll want to mix in stuff that everyone likes. You can play a little bit of everything and still make sure to get your music in as well.

What about Oldies but goodies? These songs are always a big hit and you can dance to them. It also gets the older people and kids (if you have kids attending) on the dance floor as well. You know like... Twist and shout, going to the chapel, etc. etc.

Those are good songs, but I can personally only take so much of them. Our reception will definitely have a variety... My fiance and I went to a wedding this past weekend (when we got snow! lol). They played only older songs, and I got so bored that we left at 9:30 or 10 on a Saturday night! I just couldn't take that music any longer!!! Good thing that we're paying for the DJ at ours! lol
