I am getting married feb.11,2006. Our theme is valentines day with red white pink and silver. I am trying to think of cute centerpeices. I already know what I am doing as place cards- table cards. I am getting red cupids and writing the familys name in the heart. At each seat I will have a valentines goody bag with a name written on a tag to each one. Each one will be either a kid bag or adult bag.

Since flowers are expensive that time of year, how about candles??? You can get a nice ****r or piller candle, a hurricane glass cover, and a mirror. You can place the mirror on the center of the table then put the candle on it with the cover over the candle. Another option instead of the mirror is to put a flower ring (which I'm sure you can get from a craft store; it is silk flowers) around the hurricane instead. That is actually what we are doing for our centerpieces.

You can also do votive cups or floating candles. With your theme, a good idea would be to get clear glass bowls, put some colored or multicolored marbles/beads on the bottom (red, white, silver, and/or pink), put water in it, then put floating heart-shaped candles in the bowl. You could put a mirror under the bowl or decorate around the bowl with some silk flowers...

Just a few ideas. Hope that helps!

Actually I aactually adore floating candles. My grandma used to have tropical ones in her pool shed light for me at night and Id just lay beside the pool and watch them float. I never thought of marbles actually i know a place were they have heart shaped glass beads!!! That will be absolutly perfect. Thank you so much!!!!

I have a vision but i dont know if it would work.

Glass bowls with the beads, tea light candles (with ribbon over the metal to look festive) around the bowl and the top of open roses floating in the water. Rose garlands around each table, and in front of the door we enter through at the reception, have tiny silk rosebuds sewn into tulle of pink or white. Any good? I want all romantic. As romantic as possible.

Given the fact im going to be using candles, do i need to bother with flowers? Im going to have the regualr flowers for the ceremony, but because of the bowl and all that is it really necessary to have flowers? Personally I dont think theyll be needed given the fact I dont want to take attention away from the centerpeices.

They won't really be needed, but you can use silk flowers instead. The less flowers you have to pay for that close to Valentine's Day the better... I mean a dozen roses on Valentine's is what like $40-60??? I think that is about what it is here.

Also about the tealights you mentioned, you should consult the hall or location you plan on having the reception at before planning that. Many places require that all candles be enclosed. Floating candles would be in the bowl, all votives should be in a votive cup, and pillars/****rs have to be enclosed in a hurricane cover. I am sure they do this to avoid fire code violations and protect themselves from an accidental fire. You would especially need to have the tealights in holders if you plan on putting other decorations around them...

You can always get silk rose petals and place around the bowls and candles on the tables. I think I have a picture of this done somewhere else. I will see if I can find it and post it on here.

We have mentioned the $1 section at Target before...the one near me has some weddings things right now (so I am sure they all do). They had 2 votives with a glass holder for $1!

Be careful that the candles you are choosing will burn long enough for your reception. I love tea lights but no way would they make it through our full day event. Most candles say how long you can burn them on the bottom somewhere. Besides that, I think your vision is spectacular! Very romantic and classy.

This is a good point I had looked at this aspect of tea lights and they burn for around 4 hours which would not have been long enough for us so we skipped on the idea but another thing you could do if your reception was much longer would be to just have a bunch of extras since they are pretty inexpensive and just have someone watching would could change them as they started to burn out.

Oriental Trading has tons of valentine themed decorations. They are not that expensive either. You can visit their website at www.orientaltrading.com and see what they have. You can even have a catalog sent to your home. Also, I been to a valentines wedding before. They had the flower girl dress up like angel and instead of flowers, she sprinkeled heart confetti. It was really neat and different. In fact, I am having my flower girl do something similar in my wedding. I am having a fairytale themed wedding so it will look like she is sprinkling fairy dust.

I hope I was able to help out. Good Luck to you! And Congrats!!!
