My FH and I have a guest list of about 65 people total. Ten of which are in the bridal party. We also have a flower girl and two ring bearers. While we hate the idea of a sweetheart table, we can't see putting such a large portion of the wedding at the head table. Not to mention, three of the members of the bridal party have dates that are not members that would have to sit with them also.
I had the idea of seating my MOH (my sister) and her husband at the head table with is. My FH thinks the table will look lopsided with just one couple with us. As stated in a previous thread, his BM (his brother) has two kids that I would prefer not sit at the head table with us. He refuses to ask his BM and his wife to accompany us at the table and have their kids sit with their grandparents. He thinks it is rude and that his brother would take offense. I desperately want my sister to sit with me so that we can catch up as much as possible. She lives out of state and is pregnant, so we rarely get any time together. Not that I will ignore my FH and the fact that it is our day, but I would like to have her there by my side. Is there a happy compromise that we are not seeing? Please help! A kid's table suggested in another thread was a great idea, but there will only be 5 kids at my wedding and none of them will really know each other. I think they will all end up at their parents' tables anyway. I also don't have anyone readily available to babysit them either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here is what my friend did. I was a BM in her wedding last October. She sat people with people she thought they would enjoy sitting with. They had a huge bridal party, 8 people on each side. So she sat them with their dates. The bridal party was spread throughout the room. So me and one other BM and our dates were at a table with other guests that we knew. The brides MOH and another BM and their dates were at another table with people they knew, etc. I think at the bride and grooms table was a couple (childhood friend) who had traveled from NY (to a CA wedding) and several "single" guests who didn't bring dates including a "single" bridesmaid and the "single" best man. So basically she threw the whole idea of a "head table" out the window and put people where they would be comfortable. I have to say it was genious.

While the rest of the bridal party will be sitting with the rest of the guests, I would still like my sister (MOH) sitting with me. Did your friend have a head table at the front of the room or did she just set up a table for her husband, herself and the people you mentioned mixed in with everyone else? I'm curious to see how that would work for my situation. Was it just your basic 8 person round table they sat at?

No, they didn't really have a "head table" at the front of the room. All the tables were round, so they sat at a round table near the front of the room. Yes, I think they were tables of 8.

I think your FH needs to tell his BM the children will sit with the grandparents. Then have the BM and guest along with the MOH and guest sit with your FH and yourself at the head table. There is NOTHING wrong with the BM's children sitting with their grandparents and I do not see why he would get on the offensive side. How does your FH know his brother will get offensive if he doesn't ask? At least have him ask, if he won't then you should.
