We don't yet have a date set, but I would like to get some input on my cake idea. My FH is of Irish heritage, and I thought that for the top tier of our cake, it would be a nice idea to make an Irish whiskey cake. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

Traditionally the top tier is saved and frozen, taken out on your one year anniversary and eaten then. If you both like irish wiskey cake then go for it, but if you were thinking about having it for guests you might want to consider having it for a different tier.

You could also consider doing a groom's cake for him, and doing the Irish Whiskey Cake that way.

groom cakes aren't used very often at all where I'm from so I hadn't even thought about that, but that would be a great idea too!

I would be concerned that the Irish whiskey cake will not freeze properly. Alcohol does not freeze at all. The water in the alcohol does but the alcohol itself does not. I would definately use this for another layer of cake or consider a grooms cake made in the Irish whiskey.

Good luck!

The alcohol is mostly cooked out when it bakes - I've made rum cakes and other alcohol cakes that have frozen fine - you just have to make sure its vacuum packed or in a totally airtight container.

Alcohol cakes taste really good, they freeze well and last fresh a wile, you might want to consider what you are granishing with, you dont want anything that might interfre with the rich flawor of the rum. (sorry I cant spell)
