I have noticed that flowers are the "new" wedding toppers, but MFH and I were looking for a more traditional look with a bride and groom topper. My dillema is this... the ONE and ONLY one we can seem to agree is the perfect topper for us is too big to put on our cake. It is a piece by lladro called "the happiest day" and it's perfect. MFH wants to set it on the table next to the cake and just top the cake with sugar gardenias (after the flowers in my bouquet). Is this ok to do? It's creeping up fast and I need to make a decision pretty quick!

How big is the cake topper? Usually you can adjust the size of the wedding cake to fit the cake topper. Have you ordered your cake already? If so get the measurements of the cake topper you have or are wanting and talk to the baker who is doing you cake to see what can be done. It may be a simple adjustment to the wedding cake and the cake top will fit fine. My aunt does wedding cakes and is going to make mine. She told me to find the design of cake I want and she can determine what size cake sections it will need according to the size of my cake top and how many people will attend the reception. Your baker should do the same thing. I would suggest trying to adjust the size of the wedding cake. If this can not be done then you FH may have an idea with the flowers and setting the cake top to the side. While I have never seen this done, I would figure you could do what ever you want and what makes the two of you happy.

The cake topper is about 10 1/2 inches high and made of fine Spanish porcelain, so I am concerned with putting it on the top of any size cake. Our wedding is small and intimate with only about 65 adults and 10 children attending. We chose a three tier cake with no stands in between in the layers, so I don't know if adjusting the size of the cake would help any. I'm open to any more suggestions though. Thanks!

can you post a picture of the staute because I think that we picked the same one..and its also THE ONLY ONE I LOVE!!!and FH only wants the traditional bride and groom on the top...is the groom carrying the bride? I picked that one because the theme of our wedding is "Simple Elegence" We don't want anything fancy, but we want everything to be absolutely beautiful, but we also want people to be comfortable too. LLadro is absolutely stunning!!!! The last wedding I was at had basically at platform on the top of the cake to basically spread out the weight of the topper, which was also porcelian. I would just be sure that cake didn't collapse...discuss with bakery...if my thinking is right this should work but then again I could be completely wrong, if it doesn't work I would take the piece to the bakery and see what the baker says you should do with it.

Yes, it is probably the same one you are thinking of. It is called the Happiest Day and the groom is carrying his bride. We have decided not to use it because there is no way to get a 10 1/2 inch topper on a cake that stands a little bit over 14 inches on its own. We settled for a less appealing topper that matches the cake better than it matches us. It is completely white glossy porcelain and the bride and groom are both looking at the brides ring. It is fairly simple and also pretty tall at 7 1/2 inches. So we are dressing it up with a sterling silver cake platform at the base. It is about 4-5 inches tall so it will balance out the cake topper very well.
I thought about placing the Lladro beside the cake on the cake table but the whole idea behind a cake table is to display the cake and I think the sculpture (as beautiful as it is) would take away from the real show piece. Don't you agree?

Even though you decided not to use it, I honestly dont see why you couldnt put it on the table next to the cake. FH and I found a cake topper we absolutely love, but it absolutely would not look good on our cake, plus, it would be way too heavy. But, I loved it so much I decided we could use it to "dress up" the cake table, so I bought it!! We are using fresh flowers as our caketopper/

If you don't want it to take away from the look of the cake you could always put it somewhere besides the cake table to display it for everyone like the guestbook table or the card/gift table

I am soooo jealous! I contemplated having a huge cake just to be able to use it but the idea of eating leftover wedding cake for months made me change my mind. :( I only have about 65 guests coming and I will barely need a three layer cake as it is. I am glad you will be able to use it though. Lladro has another one that I liked but my FH said they look anorexic. He's got a lot of opinions that one! Anyway, I think the compromise was a good one. We went to the cake place and had them place styrofoam the size of our cake on the cake stand with the cake topper we bought and it looked pretty good. I did however tell my FH that I want the Lladro Happiest Day for our one year wedding anniversary! This way I still get what I want! hee!hee!:D

I found a website www.royalpottery.com that sells it for $383 plus tax. They are LAP certified and ship with insurance for free. You should check it out. Beware of some websites that have them for less but are not certified and have the numbers scratched off. Good luck on the hint-dropping! ;)

i went to the michigan womens expo and there was a couple there was selling these beautiful 3 and 6 inch tall laser cut crystal cubes...and you put them on either a square stand or a rotating stand that shines light up through the crystal...so i was looking at all of them and i found an absolutely gorgeous one that from the bottom to the top, it is 6 inches and it has a bride and groom in the center of the cube, then underneath the couple it has a pair of doves with some flowers around them and then above the couple it has a bible with a cross above that and everything is cut with a laser so that there is no seam in the crystal...they are soooo pretty....and thinking about the cake and the guy seemed like he was reading my mind, he said i just had someone put the actual rotating base as the top layer of their cake and the bakery like baked a little bit of cake around it and they then put the 6 inch crystal cube on the rotating base with just a little bit of clear silicon adhesive from the hardware store so that it wouldn't fall of the base during the reception and they had it as their cake topper during the whole reception... The base has like a disk on top of the lights and as it rotates the crystal lights up all these different colors one at a time, at because we are having a rainbow wedding, I thought oh how cool, if only i could think of a way.... the guy said that the bakery could contact him if they had any questions about it so I bought it! if i get some time in the next couple of days I will take some pictures of it light up...i just thought it was so unique and so cool and so pretty i just had to share it...
