We are getting married in Bermuda and our family can not come with us. Someone had told me we can have stand-ins at the wedding. They said we can have witnesses in Bermuda, but we can have people from home sign the marriage cert. and be our witnesses. I hope I am explaining this correct. Has anyone here heard of this? If it is possible how do we go about doing it?
Thanks for all your help! :)

As far as I know the marriage certificate has to be signed the day of the wedding. It cannot be signed earlier than the day of the wedding. Plus, you will more than likely have to get the marriage certificate from Bermuda. Have you checked into getting the marriage certificate and all that it entails? One suggestion I have is to get the marriage certificate in your hometown and have a civil wedding at the courthouse when you pick up the marriage certificate. Then you can still have your wedding in Bermuda.

You can have stand inns just talk to the people you are doing the wedding through and they should be able to set it up. This is what my dad did when he remaired, they had went to hawaii just the two of them and they just had someone stand in as witnesses. As for the marriage certificate, I had read in a different post of a situation where the couple wanted to sign it before the wedding durring the week and then have the ceremony that weekend, Rev. Hanson had replied that you cannot legally do this because the certificate has to refelect the actually ceremony. I would assume that the same goes for signing the certificate at a later time. My guess is that you will have to sign it after the ceremony while you are in Bermuda with the witnesses provided.
