Okay, I posted on here a while back complaining that my parents were refusing to help pay for my inevitable wedding. Well... I am engaged now (I just knew it was coming :) ) and my parents, after much objection, have agreed to help... a little. Anyway, my fh and I found a place we want to have our reception at. Its pretty cool. Its a loft inside an old buliding in our city's historical haymarket area. It has a full kitchen, great room, bedroom suite, whirlpool tub, two bathrooms, a fireplace, and a library nook. And what's really cool is Wesely Snipes stayed there once! (Not that that matters :) ) Well the price for this place is $2300 for Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday. So we can have the rehearsal dinner there, the reception, our wedding night, and Sunday brunch there. Not to mention we wouldn't be rushed to set things up and take things down. The rent includes tables and chairs. Also, the owner doesn't have a preferred caterer so we can get whoever we like. We live in Nebraska, so I think this is an excellent deal. My parents, on the other hand, think this place is expensive. The want us to have it a this reception facility that is $900 for one day. But there are all these hidden costs at this second place! So how is that cheaper?
Doesn't my choice sound like a better value? Especially if my future in-laws give a little money for rent since they would be hosting the rehearsal dinner there?

It depends on what the "hidden costs" add up to. Get a quote from where you want it (in writing) and your other expenses, caterer, bar, etc. and also go to the second place, get a written quote with the same ammenities. Take them to your parents and show them in literal black and white if your place is a better deal :)

I am was also looking for a hall in Nebraska I have found some that are just georgous but want so much money and then deposits don't even go to rent. I am a young woman and not alot of money so we kept looking the hardest part I was running into was getting the hall for my date and getting enough time before and after. Then when I would find one affordable I noticed the "Hidden fees." Until we found out that we can get exactly what we needed from the union hall. They are letting us have day before they clean up afterwards we only have $200 deposit, we can hire our own DJ, Bar tender, Bring in our own food, the only catch is we have to hire there security for $20 an hour min. of 4 hours but we only have to have him there while music is playing. I think that if you can afford that then go for it cause your special night comes once, if you cant and you know there are hidden fees everywhere then just keep looking.

Where in Nebraska is this hall you are talking about? I think that you have found a great place!! I am in Fremont.

Its called the Apothecary Lofts. Its located at 8th and P streets in the Haymarket in Lincoln. The place it beautiful! And you get all these extras. The only hidden cost we've found (and we've talked to the owner about this) is if you want your guests to have parking. It's an extra $200 if you want to rent his parking lot. Which is actually a good idea because parking isn't that great down there on Saturday evenings.
Here's the website:
Lincoln Haymarket (http://www.lincolnhaymarket.com/)

The owner's name is Jon ***p. He's on the city council and he seems like a really nice guy. :)
