Have anyone tried this before? I am very interested in talked to those who had in the past. I would like to hire a photographer for a few hours to take the standard candid pictures and to take pictures of the ceremony. At the reception I would like a couple of pictures but for the most part I want disposable ***eras on the tables for the guest to take.
I spoke to a photographer and he gave me negative thoughts about the ***eras. I just want to hear other people experience to see if it's worthwhile. The main concern I have is the results. I was also looking into the disposable digital ***eras.

Alot of people are doing this now. In fact, my brother set out ***eras at his reception for the guests to take pictures and he got some wonderful shots. Some the photographer missed. I am going to do this for my reception so that we can get more than what the photograper takes. I am almost positive we will get some excellent reception pictures. These are the ones that will catch the flower girl and ring bearer dancing or the flower girl doing summersaults in her dress off to the side. They will be worth it so go for it.

Do you recommend having a photographer and disposable ***eras at the reception? I was thinking of getting a photographer for 3 or 4 hrs which includes the ceremony. I would have the photographer take a "fake" photo of the cake cutting. I have a videographer and he is only charging me $500. I am more interested in the video then the pictures so I don't want to spend a lot. I am on a very strict budget of $6000 or less. Any suggestions?

If you are having a videographer, than I would go ahead with what you suggested for the photographer. My uncle and aunt had disposable ***eras on the tables when they got married. I am sure they got some great photos. I know that a few "dirty" photos were taken also, but the large majority of the photos were legit. Hope that helps!
I am also having a photographer and videographer, but the photographer is an incredible deal... I wish my videographer was as good a deal as yours!!! I know I'll be happy with the results though.

We are planning on using a photographer and the disposable ***eras. The photographer will be focusing on the bride and groom, of course. But your guests will use the disposable ***eras and get shots of things you probably didn't even realized happened. Not that disposables don't come with disadvantages. My best freind used then in her wedding and ended up with some shots that were taken in the ladies' restroom and lets just say those shots are not in the wedding album! :D The pics amused us, but they weren't something you want to share with grandma. And you have to pay to develop them, wether you like them or not.
Personally, I am looking forward to seeing the pics from the disposable ***eras more than the professional shots. :)

Since you are having a videographer I would only have the photographer for the ceremony and the early part of the reception. I had disposable ***eras along with a photographer and the disposable ***eras had the best pictures. People really had fun with them and caught us and everyone else at the cutest times. It all goes by so quickly the way you remember it is in pictures.

The videographer price is usually $2000 but he's sleeping w/my cousin and he didn't want me to tell his girlfriend so he's only charging me $500. Blackmail is the trick. Not proud of it but my wedding is the most important thing in my life right now. I don't care who sleep with you because it ain't making me better or worse. That's there business.

Where in IL are you? Are you close to Indiana? We're in need of an affordable videographer and I'm not above blackmail ;)

I'm glad you like my personality. I try to be likeable (likable?). Actually the video guy we are going with does very good work and his normal going rate is only $575. I just thought I would be funny and say something about your situation.
BTW I'm down in Terre Haute about 4 hrs south of Chicago.

The reason the photographer gave bad ratings on those ***eras is because he'll be losing money to them. You might want to have him there for the first dance and cake cutting, but as for into the night - go for the ***eras. We did this at my sister's weddings and lemme tell ya - we got pictures that the photographer never could have gotten.

I figure that but then he said that he knows a lot of people that end up wasting money. He said most people can't take pictures so you might end up with odd pictures of people leg or the floor. I was thinking of investing in the digital ***eras or something better then the standard. It still comes out cheaper then having a photographer.

I go to meet with a potential photographer on Tuesday. If he suggests to me that my friends and family can't take pictures and that I will end up with pics of people's legs and the floor...I will walk right out the door! Of course accidents happen, even the best photographers will accidently click the shutter while they are changing the film or something. This guy really sounds like he is just trying to push you into taking a larger package or a longer amount of time than you plan on hiring him for.
How many photographers have you talked to? If he is your first one, please talk to a few more. A personable photographer is very important because he/she will have to be making you feel comfortable and at ease right in the middle of a very emotional and stressful time. You want someone that will feed off the personalities of everyone and be able to "read" people. They will have a better understanding of what you want and you will be much happier with the results.

If you are on a strict budget and cannot afford a photographer to take pictures of the reception, cake cutting, and that then maybe you can get one of your family members who takes really good photos can take those. I would still have the disposable ***eras on hand. I am sure you might get some "odd" pictures but you will also get a lot of good ones. Not everyone who takes a picture takes an "odd" one.
Do you have a college with a photography class? If so, you might want to see if one of the advanced students can photograph your wedding cheaper and then they can use some of the photos in their portfolio.

I have also suggested asking a photography student in previous threads, but I have learned you need to be VERY cautious. I recently interviewed a photographer who just graduated from a photography program that is ranked 2nd in the nation. He is just trying to get his business rolling and is the son of my mom's coworker. I was so excited because we would be getting a great deal since we know his mom and we were going to allow him to use us in his portfolio. About 30 seconds into the meeting, I knew I did not want him at my wedding. It is really important to have someone 1) that makes you feel at ease with a great sense of humor and 2)has the confidence to command the attention of the bridal party to get everyone into the position and get the pictures over without too much delay. Someone that is new to doing wedding may not have that confidence yet. They just might not know how to get a crowd organized...you can't learn that in school. I am not saying there aren't some perfectly confident and able photography students out there..I know there are. But be cautious and really try to imagine how this person will fit in at your reception and ceremony.

At my FH's sister's wedding, they had disposable ***eras a the reception. It is a wonderful idea, except when they went to collect the ***eras in the end, it seems as though the guests kept them. It is a good thing she had a photographer and a videographer. I think it is great just as long as you have back up just in case your guests take them and keep it for themselves. :)

Well my wedding is hopefully in one year, date yet determined but hoping for Apirl 7, 2006 since I was engaged on that date in 2004.
However............I had come across a magnificant deal. I purchased 120 ***eras that are actually 35mm non disposable and 120 rolles of kodak 35 mm film for a total of $1.00 per person, this included the shipping and handling for both items. What a steal. I figured I wanted the candid pictures, and they could add as a party favor for the guest to take home a ***era and leave me with the film if they used it.
I am forgoing the option of a videograph though.
